are the designing company that are on behalf of the client, EMPACT.
The main reason why BuildTech are qualified to construct the Mars/ Land
Rover is that the contractors from BuildTech have fullfill the criteria stated
by the Andromeda Industry. The designers company required the tendering
company to interpret the design and to construct the project correctly
without misunderstanding. The contractor have prove that they conduct
meetings to understand the design in design through communicate with
the designing company.

Other than that, BuildTech are very concern about punctuality as it

affect the both contracting and designing company. The contractors of
BuildTech are always on time for the meeting. Besides that, the contractors
are also complete the work given with full effort. This helps the contractors
to complete and submit their task within the time limit.

Professionalism are very important as the contracting company. The

BuildTech has high expectation to their contractors. Contractor Sri Ganesh
from BuildTech has ever participant in the Physic Project Exhibition and won
the first place. In addition, contractor Chong Kok Qun has also won third
place in the Physic Project Exhibition. Contractors from BuildTech are well-
prepared and qualified to accomplished the project.
As the contracting company, the BuildTech make sure that all their
product are build with lowest cost but the best quality. The contractors of
BuildTech are good in cost management as one of the contractor has the
experience in the treasurer postition . With the help of BuildTech
contractors the project will be done with good quality and at the same time
saving the cost needed.
BuildTech have 2 concerns about the design of Mars/ Land Rover by
the design company. The first concern is that about the stability of mars
rover. The front wheels and back wheels are not the same material which
has different mass. This causes imbalance of the prototype and the
prototype might flip over while it experience vertical drop. Another concern
is about the strength of the magnet . The magnet that hold the lid of the
box must be strong enough so that the load that insert in the box does not
spilt.
In conclusion,BuildTech believe that with the responsible and
dedication the prototype designed by the designing company Andromeda
Industry will be a success . BuildTech hope that the chance will be given to
us to show that we are the right contracting company to complete the
project.

1.0 Introduction
This document consists of BuildTech's tender submission for the
construction of the EMPACT'S prototype of Mars/ Lander Rover. This report
is to prove that BuildTech have achieved the criteria that listed by the
Andromeda Industry, on behalf of the client EMPACT which shows that
BuildTech have the ability to construct the prototype of the Mars Rover.

2.0 Design Package Review

The design package review is conducted to assure that BuildTech has a
full understanding about the concepts of the prototype of the Mars Rover.
2.1 Understanding of Design
BuildTech has a clear view and understanding regarding the design of
the Mars/ Lander Rover by Andromeda Industry .
The component used to make the base of the rover is by using a 10mm
thick wooden sheet which has the width of 155mm and the length of
297mm. The material used to hold the load in the form of 600ml water
bottle is by using two square wooden sheet which has the width of 75mm
and length of 75mm, and another rectangle wooden sheet which has the
width of 280mm and length of 75mm to form a box to hold the load. The
dimensions for the lid of the box is 280mm x 95mm and 4 magnets is glued
to each side of the box. For the axle, two steel rods with the length of
270mm is used as the axle for the rover. For the back wheels, 3 CDs are
glued together to form one wheel same goes to another side of the wheel,
duct tape is used to wrap the wheels. For the front wheels, a 5mm diameter
hole is drilled to the jar lid to act.
as the front wheels of the rover . 8 bottle caps are drill with 5mm diameter
holes are stick to each side of the wheels to ensure that the wheels and
axle are perfectly fit .
2.2 Client Brief Compliance
The client brief compliance listed by the EMPACT are divided into 4 parts
which consists of the conceptual constraints, dimensional constraints,
material constraints, impact and cushion constraints.
2.2.1 Conceptual Constraints
The conceptual constraints stated by the EMPACT are shows as below:
Prototype travel in self-guided straight line for 2 meters, and down the
slope which is not less than 30 degree.
Prototype must withstand a vertical drop of 1 meter and land on its
wheels .
Prototype must carry a weight in the form of 600ml water bottle on top
of it without directly accessing the prototype.
The prototype that designed by Andromeda Industry will be able to
travel in self-guided straight line because the prototype Mars Rover is
designed with 2 axle with 4 wheels attached to it. The design also can
withstand 1 meter vertical drop because the body of the prototype is make
from solid wooden sheet and each of the wheels are made up with 3 CDs
which is strong enough to absorb the impact. The prototype can also carry
the weight in the form of 600ml water bottle because there is a box
designed on the prototype which is can fit the water bottle in it.
2.2.2 Dimensional Constraints
The dimensional constraints stated by the EMPACT are shows as below :
The entire footprint of the prototype vehicle must fit within an A3
sheet of paper (420mm x 297mm).
The maximum height of any portion of the prototype is 210mm.
There must be at least two axles on the prototype, and the wheels
must allow the prototype to move down a slope of 30 degrees
minimum.
The prototype of Mars/ Land Rover by Ardromeda Industry has the
length of 367mm and the width of 270mm which is within the range
stated. For the maximum height of the entire prototype is 145mm which
is also within 210mm that stated in the dimensional constraints. Two
steel rod are used as the axles on the prototype, there are also jar lid and
CDs act as the front wheels and back wheels which allow the prototype
to move down the slope.
2.2.3 Material Constraints
The material constraints stated by the EMPACT are shows as below :
Prototype must be designed to cost less than $30 when pricing
materials using the spreadsheet provided on blackboard.
3D printed components are permitted provided that the total 3D cost
is less than 25% of the theoretical prototype cost.
3D printed components are permitted provided that the total 3D cost
is less than 25% of the theoretical prototype cost
Recycled materials can be accounted for with a cost equivalent to 50%
of the spreadsheet cost.
The design by Andromeda Industry will meet the material costraints
stated by EMPACT since the total price for all the material used will be RM
28.70 as shown in the appendix A.
2.2.4 Impact and Cushion Constraints
The impact and cushion constraints stated by the EMPACT are shows as
below:
Prototype must be designed such that no manual control is required
between the release onto the slope.
Prototype must end testing with at least one set of wheels in contact
with the ground, and without damage or spilt cargo.
The prototype by Andromeda Industry are able to fullfill the impact and
cushion constraints as the prortotype are designed to be self-guided. The
body of the prototype are made from solid wooden sheet which is hard
enough to withstand high impact while it experience 1 meter vertical drop.
The front wheels are also made from jar lid and each of the back wheels
are made from 3CDs which are also strong enough to withstand the force.
2.3 Concern and Solutions
The BuildTech has 2 concern regarding the design of the Mars/
Lander Rover by the Andromeda Industry. The first concern is
about the stability of the prototype. This is because the front
wheels and back wheels are using different material which is the
jam jar lid and CDs, the prototype might flip over while it
experience the vertical drop. The solution to this problem is by
using the same material so that the weight is balance for both
side of the wheels .
The second concern is the lid of the box might fall off while the
prototype experience vertical drop. It is recommended that the
magnet used must be strong enough to hold the lid.
3.0 Tender Evaluation Criteria
3.1 Understanding
Understand through the whole design
A contractor who is able to interpret the design is important to
construct the project correctly and without misunderstanding.
Contractors are allowed to discuss the design of the project with
designers in the meeting to get understand the project
thoroughly.

Innovative in modifying the design

Suggestion of modifying the project is acceptable as the
current design might not perfect. The improvement includes the
design of project and the material used to construct the project.
Thus, contractors should read through the whole design package
in order to provide suggestion.
All the contractors of BuildTech has a clear view and
understanding relating the design by have a group discussion
before attending the meeting. Appendix 1 shows that the
contractors creating group chat in whatsapp to discuss about the
prototype. During the meetings, the contractors also ask
questions and suggest ways to improve the design by the
Andromeda Industry. Appendix 2 shows the minutes of meetings
which include the question and improvement suggested.
3.2 Communication Skills
Notification in Meeting, Accurately Exchange Ideas, and
Communicate in English
With outstanding communication skill, messages can be conveyed clearly
and accurately among the contractors and company .
BuildTech are very alert to all kind of situation. For example we did
discussion and research about the Mars/ Land Rover that designed by
Andromeda Industry. We written all the question and ways to improve the
design, so that we can exchange our ideas during the meetings. This can
be prove in the Appendix 3 which shows that we conduct meetings and
exchanging ideas in our group chat. Appendix 4 also show our contractors
have also achieve credit in the English subject.
3.3 Time Management
Attend Meeting on Time
Contractors should always attend the meeting at the time arranged and
not late more than 5 minutes. Being punctuality reflects the contractors
responsibility and respect to the meeting.
Submit Tender Aplication on Time
Completing the task in the limited time shows the contractor is able to
manage his time and keep every task in ordered. Therefore, outstanding
time management skill is an important criterion in our company.
BuildTech are good with their time management. The contractors of
BuildTech are always punctual to meetings . The contractors of BuildTech
are very concern about the tasks given and always well prepared to
complete the Mars/ Land Rover on time. This can be prove in Appendix 5
which shows the contractor arrive at the venue on time before the meeting
and blackboard submission can prove the contractor submit the tender
application on time.
3.4 Professionalism
Possess safety knowledge
To prevent injury in construction stage, contractors must possess safety
consciousness in every step while using dangerous tool. Besides, the main
consideration of construction skill is correct gesture of using tools as it is
highly related to the safety issue.
Possess basic construction skill
Possessing knowledge of tools will allow contractors to construct the
project in a secured situation. Thus, contractors are required to provide
evidence as summary of safety plan, evidence of learning working tools,
certificate of attending workshop or related subject in previous study (ie,
Kemahiran Hidup in PMR) and evidence of studies of precaution of
attending a workplace.
The contractors of BuildTech has briefly explain the safety plan to the
designers of the Andromeda Industry during the meetings, as shown in
Appendix 6 which includes in the agenda. All the contractors have the
certificate of PMR which proves that we have learn how to use the working
tools, attending workshop and studies that related to safety precaution. The
certificate are shown in Appendix 7 which show all the contractors have
studied the subject Kemahiran Hidup .
3.5 Cost Management
Research and access to stores
The cost of materials should be as lower as possible without lowering
the quality of the design. Thus, contractors are required to access and
research stores which provide required material with lowest price. In order
to ensure the quality of material, contractors should propose at least 2
stores to purchase the materials with highest quality and lowest price.
Not excessing budget & Driving license
The evidence of accessing and researching stores and list of total cost
without excessing budget are required to be submitted while possessing
driving license will be a bonus point as it allows contractors to access
stores conveniently.
The contractors of BuildTech are good in cost management. Appendix 8
show the list of material which include the price that listed by the
contractors after researching the store Nam Liong and Ng Sian Hap Trading.
Besides that, all the contractor of BuildTech has driving license which allow
us to access to the store anytime. The proves are shown in Appendix 9 .

steel rods with diameter and length of 270mm is cut with pliers. For the rear wheels, 3 CDs are glued together
with super glue, this is repeated for one more time to make the other wheel. Use duct tape to wrap around the
side of the wheels two times. 2 bottle cap is attached to both sides of the CDs with hot glue. This is repeated to
the other set of CDs. For the front wheels, a 5mm diameter hole is drilled at the center of two jar lid. Then two
bottle cap are hot glued to each side of each of the the jar lids. One steel rod is inserted into the eye hooks to
form the axle. Then insert the axle into the holes made of the bottle caps with the CDs. Then the connection
between the steel rod and holes on the bottle caps are sealed with hot glue. This is repeated with the other sets
of CDs. For the front part, Step 6 is repeated but with the modified jar lids.
3.0 Safety Plan
3.0.1 Introduction

There is possibility of an accident may occur when manufacturing of something. So in this case, the accident
will occur when we manufacture our prototype, Mars Rover. A safety plan is prepared so that the designer and
contractor are aware of the hazards. This safety plan will highlight all the hazards that may occur during the
manufacturing of Mars Rover. Accidents are not fully avoidable although safety plan are prepared, so one
needs to be more aware.

Level Description
Unlikely Rarely to happen even precaution is not followed.
Possible Has a chance to happen.
Likely Very high chance to happen.
3.2 Safety Plan for Stage 1- Design Stage

3.2.1 Cooperation is not given

As this project is a group project, teamwork and cooperation must be given by every member of a team. All
members should be cooperative and the respective work given must be done on time it will cause the other
member to do excessive work and the project cannot be done on time. If non-responsive member occurs in a
team, the other members should discuss with the member about allocating task in meeting or seek for help
from manager to notify and advice the member to have his work done.

3.2.2 Program is not responding/Closing program without saving

Besides, data lost is the likely risk which happens frequently. It is usually caused by closing the program
without saving the work and not responding of the program. Thus, the data and design should be saved once
modification or addition is made in few storages like pen drive and computer as backup.

3.2.3 Insufficient information of design

Furthermore, insufficient information shared in the group might lead to misunderstanding of the whole project.
It is possible to happen as the design is decided by designers, constructors might not understand several part
which will lead the contractors into wrong path. To prevent this risk happens, all members should read
thoroughly the whole design and designers should explain in detail to the contractors.

3.2.4 Residual Risks

Although actions are suggested to be taken in curbing the problems, there might some residual risks like team
member ignore all the advice and leave the work undone, data lost and the backup file is not updated, deviation
of explanation of the project occur. All members should aware to reduce the risk to a lower extend.

3.3 Safety Plan for Stage 3- Construction Stage

3.3.1 Hammering of Nails

During construction of prototype, hammering of nails is an essential process. While hammering, injuries to
fingers or arm may occur. The likelihood of this to happen is unlikely and the severity is minor. To prevent this
from happening, we can use a cardboard to hold the nail by making a hole in the cardboard. The cardboard can
be teared out after the nail is embedded enough.

3.3.2 Drilling of Screws

Secondly, drilling of screws is another key process in construction. Debris may be scattered while drilling and
cuts or serious bleeding may occur. This situation is very possible and the severity is moderate. By using safety
goggles and gloves while drilling, we can prevent debris from injuring our eyes. Other than that, learning the
correct techniques and positioning of drilling is also really important.

3.3.3 Instructions not clearly stated

Not only that, instructions that are poorly written and designed could cause the final product to not be function
able , have many flaws or may not be able to function as intended. This is very likely to happen but the severity
is minor. To stop this from happening, instructions are to be clearly written. Instructions should also be referred
to the photos of the design.

3.4 Safety Plan for Stage 4- Testing Stage

As the prototype must be designed to travel itself for 2 meters, down a slope which not less than 30 degrees
and following this free roll, the prototype will be subject to a vertical drop of 1 meter, there are some hazards
need to be aware.

3.4.1 Prototype with Sharp Edges

During testing the prototype, the prototype with sharp edges may drop to the floor. Due to this, leg will get
injured and cuts or serious bleeding may occur. It is likely to occur and the severity is major. To prevent this
accidents, covered shoes must be wear and stay away from the prototype when testing is ongoing.

3.4.2 Water Bottle Drop Out

Secondly, water bottle may also drop out from the prototype during testing. Leg will also get injured and it may
also cause slippery floor if the water of the bottle flow out. It is possible to happen. To avoid this accidents, the
water bottle must be tie up probably or must be construct well according to the design package.

3.4.3 Prototype Dissembling

There are another hazard that need to be aware about which is prototype may dissembling during testing stage.
This will cause injuries to eye or wounds to body. It is possible to happen during testing. Wear safety glasses or
goggles and safety clothing during testing to avoid this accident to occur.
