Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity: Prior to the SRS activity, I will have taught multiple lessons about the effects
of Reconstruction, as well as topics such as the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment, Freedmens Bureau, and Jim
Crow laws. This will ensure that the students are adequately prepared for the SRS activity.
Describe the purpose of the SRS activity (check all that apply):
Assess Prior Knowledge Anticipatory Set (Create Interest in a Topic) To Illuminate Common
Misconceptions Formative Assessment of Content Knowledge (for purposes of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) Summative Assessment of Content Knowledge Test Preparation

Additional explanation of purpose (optional):

Type of session: Teacher-Paced Student-Paced

Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity (For example: What will students do? What
will the teacher do? What materials are needed? How long will the SRS activity take? The overview should
be a minimum of 2 paragraphs.):
At the beginning of the SRS activity I will hand out iPads to the students. I will then tell them to go to the
Socrative website and login. They will then select the Reconstruction quiz, which includes topics such as
Jim Crow laws and Freedmens Bureau. The students will work independently and at their own pace to
complete the quiz, while I will be walking around the room monitoring them and answering any questions
the students might have. I will give the students 10-15 minutes to complete the quiz.

The quiz includes multiple choice and true/false questions. The overall goal of the quiz is for me to get a
better understanding of what topics the students understand and what ones I need to review with them some
more. The data I collect from each student will not be shown to the other students.

Types of questions/prompts (Check all that apply):
Multiple choice Multiple Select True/False Yes/No Short open-ended response
or fill in the blank Longer open-ended response
Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students:
What Amendment made slavery illegal in the United States?
What is it called when a tenant farmer farms land for the owner and is paid a share of the crop?
Southern states passed Jim Crow laws, which kept African Americans and white people apart.
Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? Yes No
Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback:
Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all of the questions and display correct response to the class
after the SRS activity? Yes No
Why or why not? Since all of my questions on this SRS activity are multiple choice or true/false, they will
all have a correct answer. Because of this, I will go over the quiz afterwards and explain why the answers
were correct/
Use of data:
The data I collect from this activity will be used to determine what concepts each student are not quit
understanding. The concepts that arent be understood by the students will then be re-taught in the form of
small groups. This activity will not be for a grade, just for me to see where each student is. However, this
SRS activity will also be used as practice for an upcoming test.
Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: Immediately following the SRS activity I will go over
the quiz and explain the correct answers. After that we would move on with whatever else I have planned
for that day.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. A learning goal for this SRS activity for me would
be to come up with ways to better understand if my students are understanding what I am teaching them.
And whatever they do not understand I will know to alter my teacher methods.
