Unit Title: Transformations Name: Kara Rotunno

Content Area: Geometry (Mathematics) Grade Level: 10
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

The standards below correspond to the standards in the Congruence section under the Geometry standards within the California
Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

2. Represent transformations in the plane using, e.g., transparences and geometry software; describe transformations as functions
that take points in the plane as inputs and give other points as outputs. Compare transformations that preserve distance and angle
to those that do not (e.g. translations versus horizontal stretch)

3. Given a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon, describe the rotations and reflections that carry it onto itself.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

Students understand transformations of figures on the coordinate plane.

Students know which transformations are and are not an isometry.

Students know how to draw the resulting image given the preimage and the type of transformation to apply to it.

Students know how to specify sequences of transformations that will carry a given figure onto itself.

Unit Summary:

In this unit, you will learn about transformations of figures on the coordinate plane. You will learn about the four types of
transformations and how to apply them to figures on the coordinate plane. You will be able to graph the resulting image given the
original figure and the type of transformation to apply to it. You will also be able to describe the transformations to apply to a
figure in order to transform it onto itself. Lastly, you will learn what an isometry is and classify each of the four types of
transformations as an isometry or not. You will also learn about applications of transformations and examples of how they are used
or seen in real life.
