answer below questions about French Quarter:

1. Vietnam

French colonialism is a period in Vietnamese history that lasted for 61 years,


beginning in 1884 when France pressed the Hue court to accept French
protectorate until 1945 when France lost control of Indochina.

In September 1945, France brought back troops to attack Vietnam to re-colonize

Rebuild the Kingdom of Cam-Pu-Chia.

Re-establish the Kingdom of Laos.

2. What are the good and bad things that French did in Vietnam?
Good things: Some contruction was built by French like Long Bien bridge or Dong
Xuan market. Old quarter architecture was finished and became more unique by

Bad things: After invaded VietNam, of course, Frech excuted brutal policies for
suppress people and bring benefits for France. France war also killes a lot of

3. Why was Vietnam divided into the north and the south after 1954?
In the invasion of French in Vietnam, they faced with the strong against
from Viet Minh in the south of viertnam with Dien Bien Phu Battle, that
leaded to divied Vietnam into two provisional state. Ng nh Dim became
Prime Minister of South Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh became President of
North Vietnam

4.What do the Vietnamese think about French and France? Do your people hate
French?

France established diplomatic relations with special success with the


Democratic Republic of Vietnam on April 12, 1973 and opened an ambassador
in Hanoi. In the short time French dominated vienam, they also made some bad
things with vienamese citizens but they brought many new things to develope
Vietnams economy and built some unique architecture for us. So nowadays,
French war was the past and Vietnamese can study and work in France without
troubles from war. And I think Vietnamese dont hate Frech completely( under
the side watching of Vietnamese)

6. When and why was the St. Josephs Cathedral built?

It was built in 1886 and opened in December 1886 to serves as the cathedral of the
Roman Catholic with the architectural style described as resembling Notre Dame
de Paris

7. Describe the architecture of the Cathedral?

The outside wall was made of granite stone slabs.There are 2 towers in square
shape, rising to a height of 103 ft (31 m) and each tower fitted with five bells.
On the lobby of the church, there is a large door, two small doors on either side of
the tower. The doors and all the windows are pointed by Gothic art, combined with
the sharpened door is the beautiful and harmonious glass stained glass creates a
natural light source inside the church. The sanctuary is decorated by traditional
folk art, carved wooden lacquer patterns are very sophisticated gold trim. In the
main hall is the statue of St. Joseph with terracotta higher than 2m.

The church also has a Western bell, consisting of four small bells and a large bell,
worth 20,000 French francs at the time. Especially the big clock attached to the

I dons follow any religion. The biggesr religion in Vietnam is Buddhism ( was
developed strongly under Ly dynasty)

10. Is it difficult for a catholic to find a job in Vietnam government? Why?

It is difficult for them to find a position in Vietnam government but it can happen
completely if the person meets all the qualities stipulated in the Communist Party's
regulations, clean kinship - past and present has no relationship with individuals
and organizations that goes against the direction of the Past.
Adding that, in the past and present, Catholicism always turned its back on the
Party and the people. During the resistance war against France, his government had
a very open policy towards Catholics but in return was a betrayal, the laity (in Bui
Chu - Phat Diem) was armed with French weapons to fight Again Viet Minh, killed
many VM staff and innocent people. The Catholic Church also banned and
excommunicated any layman associated with the Communists. Then the wave of
migration to the south, the migrant Catholics were the effective arm of anti-
Communist policy and the dissolution of Ngo Dinh Diem, 1975, on the way to
liberate the South, Army Nhan People are also suffering losses and difficulties
caused by this class of people

11. Why lots of Vietnamese families exercise ancestor worship?

The ancestor worship tradition is rooted in the belief that the soul of the deceased
still exists in this world and affects the lives of descendants.people believe that
their ancestor always beiside them , follow them and help them in everything so
they make a altar like the place where their ancestors come back with them

12. Have you ever tried some drink in Cong Caf? Share you experience (its taste,
the drink that you like most).

I have never tried but I tried egg milk coffe in Giang coffe last week. Its taste is
excellent

13. How are Cafe-shops decorated? What is the meaning of that decoration?

I think it was quite different from the decoration way of each caf shop and it has
the particular meaning.

Decoration means a thing that make something look more attractive in the special
occasion or normal

14. Make the introduction of Hanoi Opera House.

It was built by the French in 1911, and renovated in the late 1990s with French
architecture. There are 900 sear there and it used for theatrical performance and
traditional songs and music, symphonies, opera and classical opera. It is also one
of the most atracttive tourist in ha noi
15. Make introduction of Trang Tien Ice-cream

Trang tien ice cream first appearance in 1958 and become very famous nowadays.
It know as the most featured ice cream about color, quality and tastes. There is a lot
of kind of this cream likes bean, chocolate, young glutinous rice, and milk with
suitable prize for each class of people. Diversity taste( almost cool sweet) ll bring
a lot of choices and interesting experience for you.

16. While the buildings under French architecture are often painted yellow?

Because yellow symbolise for luxuries richness and lukiness. In the addition, it is
suitable for wet climate in Vietnam. When the moss started appearing in the yellow
wall, this combination creat a particular ancient colour, so beautiful.
