3.1.1 General
MOs are logical representations of entities that may consist of hardware, software, or both.
Hardware can be shared between MOs of different classes.
The TG does not have its own hardware or software. Instead it consists of a set of MOs from
other MO classes.
The following MO classes exist for the BTS logical model G12:
Receiver (RX)
Transmitter (TX)
Figure 1 shows the representation of BTS MOs in the BSC for the BTS logical model G12.
Figure 1 Representation of MOs for BTS Logical Model G12
Table 1 shows how MOs are represented in the command and printout format. The variable
lmctr signifies a local MCTR in the TG, the variable ltrxc signifies a local TRXC in the TG,
the variable lts signifies a local TS in the TRXC, and the variable ldp signifies a local DP in
the TG.
3.2.1 General
There are two alternative transmission modes that can be used by the TG in the BTS logical
model G12. The transmission mode TDM is available for each TG by default. The use of the
transmission mode SCM depends on commercial agreements.
The transmission mode TDM is a transmission mode of a TG in which the Abis interface is
structured into 64 kbps circuits. Each LAPD link and speech/data channel uses a single 64
kbps circuit or subrate physical channel for transferring data.
The transmission mode SCM is a transmission mode of a TG in which several LAPD links and
speech/data channels share an SC for transferring data.
In this transmission mode two following concepts are used: SC and SCGR. SC is a set of
contiguous 64 kbps timeslots that are used as one wideband channel. Set of one up to four
SCs constitutes an SCGR.
In order to work properly in the transmission mode SCM, TG must be assigned to an SCGR,
one-to-one relation, and each subordinate TRXC must be connected to the specific SC. SC
for CF link is selected automatically.
3.2.4 Transmission Mode SCM Requirements
The following conditions must be fulfilled to configure TG and its subordinate MOs properly
in the transmission mode SCM:
The value of the parameter ABISALLOC for the TG must be set to FIXED.
The value of the parameter TRACO for the TG must be set to POOL.
Each TRXC in the TG must be defined using one particular Digital Connection Point
(DCP) for the signalling path and eight consecutive DCPs for the speech and data.
DCP number for the signalling path is represented by the parameter DCP1, while DCP
numbers for the speech and data are represented by the parameter DCP2. The value
range for both parameters in this transmission mode is from 178 to 285.
A total number of 232 DCPs must be given for CON MO, all from value range 256 to
1023. CON MO is mandatory in this transmission mode.
The value of the parameter SIG for CF and all TRXCs in the TG must be set to
SCCONC.
3.3.1 General
An SCGR can be configured in one of the following modes: IPM or SCM. The availability of
each mode depends on commercial agreements.
SCGR mode IPM allows using IP network for communication between BSC and BTS.
SCGR mode SCM allows using packet based transmission on PCM lines for communication
between BSC and BTS.
The number of SCs within SCGR in this mode can vary from one to four. If BSC-STN
Interwork Description (IWD) version 1 is used, the assignment of each TRXC in the TG to
the SC must be done according to the values of parameters DCP1 and DCP2 for TRXC, see
Table 2.
If BSC-STN IWD version 2 or higher is used, TRXCs can be assigned freely to the SCs.
The number of SCs within SCGR in this mode can vary from one to four. There are no
restrictions on assigning of each TRXC in the TG to the SC. It is not recommended to change
the default value of parameter JBSDL for the TG in this mode.
The STN is situated on the base station site as a stand-alone network element which has its
own IP address. There are several platforms implemented in the STN. The number of TG
supported per STN depends on the platform. Each TG is handled with an separate TG
transport session. In the BSC each TG transport is seen as one PSTU.
The STN has an Ethernet interface towards the PGW and has SCs configured on E1/T1 links
towards the BTS. On one hand STN terminates IP network from BSC side, on the other hand
it is an access point to the IP network from BTS side.
In the downlink direction, STN extracts LAPD frames from the IP packets received on the
Ethernet interface. The contained LAPD frames are sent to the BTS using the SCs.
In the uplink direction, traffic and signaling frames from the BTS are received on the SCs in
LAPD format. The LAPD frames from all SCs are encapsulated in IP packet and sent to the
PGW.
With Packet Abis over IP a number of LAPD frames can be bundled together within a given
transport session. The purpose of this bundling is to use the available bandwidth between
the STN and the BSC in an efficient way.
LAPD frames that are bundled together are gathered from the same LAPD bundling group. A
group is a configurable set of traffic types that has been assigned the same priority and
attributes for IP transport with Packet Abis over IP. The traffic types are identified by their
Service Access Point Identifier (SAPI). A LAPD bundling group is defined on BSC level, but
the bundling is always performed per set of traffic types for a specific TG.
If LAPD bundling group is configured to make use of the capabilities of BSC-STN IWD
version 2 or higher and at PSTU connection setup the BSC-STN IWD version 1 is chosen for
communication between BSC and STN, the LAPD bundling group configuration parameters
are mapped to match the values allowed by BSC-STN IWD version 1. For more information
on the BSC-STN IWD version 1 parameters mapping see Packet Abis over IP documentation
on Base Station System (BSS) level.
The overload handling is used to minimize disturbances on the link between the BSC and a
STN when an IP link is used.
