Genesis 2:23-24

Please note the following regarding Genesis 2:23-24:

1. The phrase "bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh", in Genesis 2:23, does not mean
monogamy. Similar phrases are used in Genesis 29:14, Judges 9:2, 2 Samuel 5:1 and 2 Samuel
19:13.
2. In 1 Corinthians 6:16, Paul applies the part of Genesis 2:24 after the comma (see Genesis 2:24 in
ESV) to the case when a man is joined to a prostitute to become one body with her. In Paul's
exegesis a man becomes "one flesh" with each of the women he has sex with. According to Paul,
Genesis 2:24 does not mean that "if Jacob is one flesh with Leah, then he can't be one flesh with
Rachel."
3. The regulations given in the Bible regarding marriage do not sum up to monogamy as an ideal
design.

Gods endorsement of polygyny which is within the Law of Moses is explicit.

Polygyny which has divine blessing and approval is good. Why is it good? I will show you why it is good
using the following examples:
1. Leah gave Zilpah to Jacob as a wife. And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob
a fifth son. Leah said, God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband.
(Genesis 30:9-17)
2. Yahweh put women into Davids lap (2 Samuel 12:8). Yahweh is good and what he does is good.
(Psalm 119:68)
3. Jehoiada got for Joash two wives. When Jehoiada died he was buried in the city of David among
the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house (see 2 Chronicles
24).
4. The word of Yahweh was the husband of Oholah and Oholibah (Ezekiel 23).
5. The names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel are inscribed on the gates of the holy city
(new Jerusalem) for all eternity. The sons of Israel whose names are inscribed on the gates of
the holy city are from Jacobs polygynous relationships with 4 different women (Leah, Rachel,
Bilhah and Zilpah).
The word condone cannot be used in the context of the five examples I have given because polygyny
which has divine blessing and approval is neither a sin nor an abomination. Polygyny is good and it is
explicitly endorsed in the five examples above.

God doesnt condone sin.

Yahweh is slow to anger and great in power, and Yahweh will by no means clear the guilty
(Nahum 1:3).
Adultery is a sin (Exodus 20:14). If David had had sexual intercourse with the women he had
been given by Yahweh, instead of Bathsheba, he would not have sinned (1 Kings 15:5). Polygyny
which has divine blessing and approval is not adultery.
Homosexuality is an abomination (Leviticus 18:22). God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
Sodom and Gomorrah had done an abomination.
The regulations given in the Bible regarding marriage do not sum up to monogamy as an ideal design.
David had more than one wife concurrently and God did not see any problem with that. The
only time when David got into trouble was in the matter of Uriah the Hittite (1 Kings 15:5).
Sarah and Hagar were Abrahams wives concurrently and God did not see any problem with that
(Genesis 26:5).
The regulations given in the Bible regarding marriage do not sum up to monogamy as an ideal
design. Consider the following example: Suppose John marries Mary and then divorces her
because he has found some indecency in her. Then Peter marries Mary. If Peter divorces Mary
or he dies, John is not allowed to re-marry Mary (see Deuteronomy 24:1-4).
