Extraction of Mineral Oils from Water Solid Phase Extraction

Sample Mineral Oils (C9-C28)

Matrix Water

Extraction Column BAKERBOND spe C18, 6 mL, 1000 mg

Sample Preparation Filter the sample if necessary.

Column Conditioning Wash the column with 2 4 mL of Tetrachloroethylene. Vacuum dry the column for 2 minutes. Add 2 4 mL
of methanol to the column and slowly aspirate through the column, followed by 2 4 mL of water. Do not
allow the column to run dry during and after conditioning the column.
Sample Addition/Wash With vacuum off, add 2 mL of the sample to the column. Attach adapter and 15 mL reservoir to the column
and add the remaining sample to it. Slowly aspirate through the column. Wash the column with 2 4 mL of
water. Vacuum dry the column for 5 minutes
Sample Elution Elute the mineral oil from the column with tetrachloroethylene as the eluting solvent.
