1 OVERVIEW

1 OVERVIEW
1.1 Outline
The LY-9507-XXHII, LY-950 Slurry Sampler HII, enables full-automatic measurement of multiple
samples by the Scheduler program of LA-950 software with a preset sequence. LY-950 Slurry
Sampler HII collects the samples from different beakers (sampling containers) and delivers the
samples to the particle size distribution analyzer (LA-950) for subsequent measurement.
The maximum number of samples is defined 15, 30 or 60 by the specification of LY-9507-
XXHII. The sequence performs all processes of the measurement automatically.

Features are as follows:

Measurement can be started from high-priority sample.
Operator can pause the sequence and register additional samples even during
sequence.
Agitation method is selectable for optimum sampling.
Sample registration and operation are executed by the Scheduler program of LA-
950V2 software.
Foreign matters pollution is prevented by the rinse station.

4 OPERATION

WARNING
Be sure to check that the sample nozzle and robot arm are at the stage origin before turning the
power switch ON.
If the power switch is turned ON while they are not at the stage origin, the robot arm will return directly
to the stage origin and may hit and damage the instrument or operator around the LY-9507-XXHII.
In case that the power turns OFF during the operation of the LY-9507-XXHII, set the sample nozzle
and robot arm to the stage origin manually before turning the power switch ON again. In case that
the sample nozzle is inclined, set it vertically.
If the power switch is turned ON while they are not at the stage origin, the robot arm will return directly
to the stage origin and may hit and damage the instrument or operator around the LY-9507-XXHII.

CAUTION
Keep off and avoid touching the robot arm during operation of the LY-9506HII, or your fingers may be
caught and injured.

4 OPERATION

Operating procedure

1. Clean the sampling needle.

When the scoop and the stirrer are equipped, clean them also.
2. Check that the needle holder is in the upper most position and t hat robot arms are
at the stage origin.
3. T urn the power switch ON.
4. Make sure that the rinse station flow is on.
5. Add samples to the sample containers and record the sample position numbers.
(If the LY-9507-XXHII is equipped with the magnetic stirrer, insert the stir bars into
sample containers.)
6. Install the sample tray back on the LY-9507-XXHII if previously removed.
7. On the software screen, open the Scheduler window.

Reference

For more information about the Scheduler program, refer to 2.11 Sampler Menu of the online help for
LA-950V2 .

7. Select a default condition file and method/sequence file from the drop down list
boxes.
8. For each sample which is installed in the sample slot, enter a sample name and a
sample position number.
9. Enter a filename.
10. In case of applying different condition file or method/sequence file to a particular
sample, click the subject file name.
11. Repeat steps 8. through 10. for all samples.
12. Make sure that each sample to be measured has the information on five columns
from the left of the window (Sample Name, Position, File Name, Conditions,
Method/Sequence).
The software will stop operation if any column is blank.

5 MAINTENANCE

5 MAINTENANCE
Cleaning the slurry sampler
Prepare clean sample containers which are rinsed thoroughly. To prevent foreign matters
from getting into the sample, clean the sample needle as well.
When needle with scoop or the stirrer are installed, clean the sampling needle by using
the rinse station after each measurement. Depending on the sample type, additional
cleaning of the sample containers or the stirrer may be required before starting
measurement of each container.
If the rinse station is not connected to continuous flow fluid system, the rinse container
should be emptied, cleaned thoroughly and refilled before starting the measurement of
each container.

Bidirectional Peristaltic pump

Check the condition of the pump tube once a week.
When there is any deterioration like crack, scratch or wrinkle, replace the tube with a new
one. If deteriorated tube is used, a dispersion medium or sample may leak.

Magnetic Stirrer
To clean magnetic stirrer plate, wipe it with a dry cloth. If necessary, wipe it with a cloth
with mild detergent first.
As for the magnetic stir bars, clean them thoroughly after measurement of each
container. If necessary, clean it by using a blush with mild detergent to prevent
remaining the sample.
