A. Background

Language as a human tool to communicate and transfering thoughts

from one mind to another people. In the other hand language is the important
part to communication with other people in the different world, without
langugae the human can missuderstanding and misscommunication about the
meaning between speaker and listener By using language people can
express idea, experiences, thought, wants, hopes, feeling and so on to other.
Based on R. Wardhaugh (2006:1) a languageis what the members of a
particular society speak. However, as we will see, speech in almost any society
can take many very different forms, and just what forms we should choose to
discuss when we attempt to describe the language of a society may prove to be
a contentious matter. Sometimes too a society may be plurilingual; that is,
many speakers may use more than one language, however we define language.
We should also note that our definitions of language and society are not
independent: the definition of language includes in it a reference to society.
According to Krauss & Chiu (1995:2) Language pervades social life. It is the
principal vehicle for the transmission of cultural knowledge, and the primary
means by which we gain access to the contents of others' minds. Language is
implicated in most of the phenomena that lie at the core of social psychology:
attitude change, social perception, personal identity, social interaction,
intergroup bias and stereotyping, attribution, and so on. Moreover, for social
psychologists, language typically is the medium by which subjects' responses
are elicited, and in which they respond: in social psychological research, more
often than not, language plays a role in both stimulus and response.
The study of language to interact in the mamber of groups social
environment and relation to society is socialinguistics. Socialinguistics are the
ways people use language in social interaction. According to Holmes (2013:1)
sociolinguists study the relationship between language and society. They are
interested in explaining why we speak differently in different social contexts,
and they are concerned with identifying the social functions of language and
the ways it is used to convey social meaning. Examining the way people use
language in different social contexts provides a wealth of information about the
way language works, as well as about the social relationships in a community,
and the way people convey and construct aspects of their social identity
through their language. Based on Yule (1996:254) The term sociolinguisticsis
used generally for the study of the relationship between language and society.
This is a broad area of investigation that developed through the interaction of
linguistics with a number of other academic disciplines. It has strong
connections with anthropology through the study of language and culture, and
with sociology through the investigation of the role language plays in the
organization of social groups and institutions. It is also tied to social
psychology, particularly with regard to how attitudes and perceptions are
expressed and how in-group and out-group behaviors are identified. According
to Hudson (1980:4) sociolinguistics as the study of language in relationto
society, implying (intentionally) that socialinguistics is a part of the study of
language. Thus, the value of socialinguistics is the light which it throws on the
nature of language in general, or on the characteristics of some particular
laguage.
In indonesia the people sometimes use more than one language that is
why the reason phenomenon of bilingualism appear in sociolinguistics in the
large of society, people need to master international language to
communicate people in the entire world. Moreover, it is also possible for the
bilingual or multilingual people use more than one code or language in
communication such us in movie, tv program, magazine, newspaper and novel
and it has many kinds in socialinguistics and divided in to some parts, speaker
with ability to speak two language called bilingualism and the ability to speak
more than two language called multilingualism. Based on Baker (2001:2) since
a bicycle has two wheels and binoculars are for two eyes, it would seem that
bilingualism is simply about two languages. According to Mayerhoof
(2006:103 ) In multilingual settings, the choice between languages carries
interactional force or implies something about the situation or the interlocutors.
One language may be used for some social functions or in a specific social
context, while another language is reserved for other functions and contexts.
This can be called diglossia, and we will look at some communities that have
been described as diglossic, including speech communities with elaborated
registers that are used in different situations and with different addressees.
Bilingualism or multilingualism the speaker often make variety in their
language, is the one of the phenomenon called code mixing, code a system
used for communication between two or more parties. Based on Muysken
(2000:1) the term code-mixing to refer to all cases where lexical items and
grammatical features from two languages appear in one sentences. Moreover, it
is also possible for the bilingual or multilingual people to use more than one
code or language in a communication. One of the language phenomena
especially in the study of bilingualism problem is called code-mixing. Code
mixing occurs when conversant use both languages together to the extent that
they change from one language to the other in the course of a single utterance
(Wardhaugh, 1998:103). For example , guys ayok dinner gue lah yang
bayarin, gue bosen nih weekend besok gak ada planning kita main playstation
aja dirumah gue. The italic form is English word that mixes in the form of
sentence Bahasa Indonesia. Besides, Code-mixing is the random alternation of
two languages within a sentence.
Code-mixing happens not only in our daily life, but also in movies,
magazines or novels. Movies, magazines or novels which are made by
Indonesian people sometimes use Bahasa Indonesia for the dialogue. Many of
them are mix by Bahasa Indonesia and English. The phenomenon of code
mixing has become an interesting topic to be discussed, especially in the movie
like Negeri van Oranje.
Negeri van oranje is the movie includes the conversations containing
Bahasa Indonesia and English for the actors. The characters of this movie often
mix their Bahasa Indonesia with English. Wardhaugh ( 2006; 101) suggests
that people are usually required to select a particular code whenever they
choose to speak, and they may also decide to switch from one code to another
or to mix codes even within sometimes very short utterances and thereby create
a new code in a process known as code-switching. Code-switching (also called
code-mixing) can occur in conversation between speakers turns or within a
single speakers turn. In the latter case it can occur between sentences (inter-
sententially) or within a single sentence (intra-sententially). The director made
the conversation of this movie by using one of these phenomena as has been
shown above, which is code-mixing. For Instance:
1. Bisa liat Boardingpass nya mas,, takutnya salah landing!
2. Ternyata banyak banget ya yang kenal sama loe,,I mean kaya pas di
food court kemaren.
3. Gua susah ngapalin nama orang!,, I know mungkin loe lupa nama
panjang gue..
4. Oh yaa,, di kampus lo itu ada tradisi senior jemput junior? Iya jadi,
kaya tourguide gitu,,

From those examples above imply that there are some insertions English.
(she italic form) to sentence of Bahasa Indonesia. It is found that there are
variations of the forms of code-mixing used in those examples.
Based on the phenomena above, the researcher intends to analyze the mix
of Indonesian-English in the Negeri van oranje movie by Endri Pelita. The
analysis of Code-mixing has been conducted by Ari saputro in (2013) entitled
The analysis of indonesian-english codes mixing used in marmut merah
jambu novel This research analyzed the form of Indonesia-English Code
mixing and the reasons of using code mixing. The result of this research
showed that the form of code-mixing were word insertion, phrase insertion,
repetition word, utterance or idiom, and clause. The reason of using code-
mixing.
In order to make the research about code-mixing more various, besides
discussing the form of code-mixing and the reason of using code-mixing in the
 sentences of the novel, in this present study the researcher discusses about the
using of code-mixing in a movie. Accordingly, the researcher conduct the
research entitled: The Analysis of Indonesian-English Code Mixing in
Negeri Van Oranje Movie.

B. The Formulation of the Study

Based on the background of study, the problem of this study is formulated
as follows:
1. What are the syntax forms of using code-mixing in the movie
Negeri van oranje?
2. What are the factors of code mixing used in the movie Negeri van
oranje?
C. The Purpose of the Study
This study is intended to get description of the problem through the
analysis and the study that have been previously mentioned in the research
problems they are:
1. To describe the syntax forms of Indonesian-English code mixing in
the movie Negeri van oranje?
2. To investigate the factors of code-mixing is used in the movie
Negeri van oranje?
D. The Scope of the Study
There are two or more languages used in code-mixing used in the movie
Negeri van oranje. The scope of the study as the following:
1 The subjects of this study are only the main actors. They are: Lintang,
Geri, Wicak, Daus, Banjar.
2 This study is limited on language-mixing occurs in Bahasa Indonesia
and English.

E. Significance of The Study

This study hopefully usefull to;
1. This study is expected to give information for the English student
about code-mixing. By reading this study, the English students
know the characters of code-mixing and information about code-
mixing.
 2. Both for the writer and the reader , this research is expected to be
useful in providing some knowledge about learning the subject
which has to do with language variation represented by Bahasa
Indonesia-English code-mixing found in the movie Negeri van
oranje.
3. The present study is expected to be able to provide more
information for the STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau students who are
interested in practicing code-mixing used in daily communication.
F. The Definition of Key Term
From the research problem above, this study is focused on language-
mixing used by the actors on the movie Negeri van oranje. In order to avoid
misunderstanding about the term used in this study, some related terms are needed
to be defined.
1 Conceptual Definition
1 Code-mixing is the mixing of two or more languages in one
speech that uses a mix of phrases and clauses, and each clause
or phrase in one utterance.
2 Negeri van oranje is the Indonesian movie that was released on
23rd of December 2015 that the director was Endri Pelita.
2 Operational Definition
An Analysis of Code Mixing Used on the Negeri van oranje means a study
which describes the language change from one language to another among the
actors on the Negeri van oranje movie. Language mixing on the Negeri van
oranje movie is intended to create meaningful and interaction among the actors in
the process of communication.
