PRECISIONES CONCEPTUALES:
In first place, its very important to talk about what the group understand as euthanasia.
The concept that we propose is: An activity or conduct directed by a health agent, one of
its consequences it the death of a patient that suffer a serious and irreversible illness.
It is carried out with the justification that the death of the patient is not an evil or damage
act for him.
And about the kind of behavior of the doctor, exist two possibilities:
a. Active euthanasia: The consequence is the death of the patient, is an action (put drugs,
disconnect medical devices)
b. Passive Euthanasia: The consequence is the death of the patient for omission. (Dont
put drugs or treatments, dont connect a medical device)
CONCEPTO AUTONOMA
In this case, we are defending the euthanasia for many reasons. One of them is related to
the principle of autonomy.
The AUTONOMY is related to a capacity, the capacity of auto-government, understand it
like the capacity to establish goals or objectives and take rational decisions to achieve
them
In second place, when we said that one person is autonomous, we are talking about a
condition. For last, the most important sense: The autonomy as a right, the right to decide
how to live, in particular, how to take critic decisions.
In the bioethics, the autonomy is one of the principal values to respect. In the classical
conception, it is referred to autonomous actions cant be restricted or controlled by other
people or institutions, always if it doesnt hurt other people. This value includes, inside the
relationship between the doctor and the patient, the right of privacy, the obligation
confidentiality and veracity and something fundamental, the dutie of the doctor to respect
the informed consent of the patient.
If we recognize this definition of autonomy, we understand that each person have the right
of autonomy, it means:
The right to take fundamental decisions according to their own conception of good life
The state have to respect that right
The decisions related to the way and moment to die, are fundamental for the exercise of
the autonomy.
The state have to respect this decisions, because respect the autonomy is equal to
respect the interests and they can be actions or omitions.
