FFA & SAE Teaching Philosophy

I Believe the FFA and SAE programs are an integral part of teaching
FFA and SAE are part of the three-circle model of teaching that also involves classroom
instruction. FFA and SAE help students to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the
real world. These programs also help students develop leadership skills, and problem solving
abilities. I believe that every student can benefit from participation in the FFA and SAE
programs. I will require an SAE for each student, because I believe it will help students connect
the classroom to their own lives. Students will create a safety plan for their project. This will help
students see the importance of being safe and identify possible dangers while working. Each
student will create weekly journal entries through the AET for their SAE project that will be
turned in at the end of each semester. I will check up on student SAE projects at least twice
during the school year by meeting with students during lunch. I will visit student projects once a
year during the summer.
FFA will be taught at the beginning of each course as per Utah state standards. I will encourage
each student to become an FFA member, as I believe students can improve upon skills and
knowledge that they have learned in the classroom. I will also run FFA activities after school so
the school day stays uninterrupted for students.
Student accomplishments matter
FFA is about developing students to have premier leadership, personal growth, and career
success. Students who are recognized for their accomplishments in and out of the classroom are
more likely to continue on the path of high achievement. I will hold an end of year banquet, in
which students will be recognized for their awards, accomplishments, and efforts over the last
year. I believe that Career Development Events/Leadership Development Events are important to
help students achieve premiere leadership, personal growth, and career success. Any FFA
member who would like to compete in CDE/LDEs will be allowed to.
Leadership doesnt mean controlling everything
My officers will be the main leaders of my chapter and I will be there to guide them and help
when challenges arise. I will delegate responsibility to my officers to ensure that they are
developing strong leadership skills. Alongside my officers, I will utilize committees, alumni, and
volunteers. These can be great resources and can connect the community to the school.
