1. A business name represents a style or topic that is used to recognize the identity of the
business carried out.
3. Business name should not be too long a n d not more than fifty (50) characters including
spaces between words.
6. Besides obtaining approval from SSM for the use of the words Nurseries, Care Centre,
Kindergarten, Tuition Centres, Colleges and Schools as part of business name must obtain
the approval of business names, business owners must also obtain written permission from
other relevant agencies prior to registering the business.
7. The use of numbers, sign and symbols is allowed as part of a business name and must be
appropriate to the use of the business name.

8. Pursuant to section 22(1) and 341 Companies Act 1965, the Minister directs the Registrar
of Companies not to accept for registration any name of a company or a foreign company
that is a name or a name of kind mentioned in the Schedule unless prior approval of the
Minister has been obtained. Any person who, being responsible for a business, uses any
undesirable name without the consent of the Minister to register the business commits an
offence.
9. The business name registered cannot be altered or changed once the business is registered.
10. Rule 17 Registration of Business Rules 1957, the Registrar may refuse to register any
business or to register any particular in respect of any business, if in his opinion the
business is unlawful by reason of any provision of any written law relating to companies or
societies or any other written law or may in such circumstances register such business, or
may register such particular, provisionally and subject to it being established to his
satisfaction that such business is lawful.
