MATLAMAT (GOALS):

This course aims at instilling the understanding and knowledge for topics related to the principles of wave
engineering and its concepts including the classification and characteristics of waves, theories regarding to
waves and the basic design factors of coastal engineering.

SINOPSIS (SYNOPSIS):

Coastal and harbour engineering relates to the principles of wave engineering and its concepts and theories
regarding to waves and the basic design factors. This course introduces students to the functions requisite to
the study of coastal and harbor engineering. Scope of study includes introduction to characteristics of waves,
theory of small amplitude waves/ theory of linear waves. Nonlinear wave theories and other types of waves
theory, the transformation process of waves and harbour design.

HASIL PEMBELAJARAN (LEARNING OUTCOMES):

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

1. Design coastal protection structure against wave energy and processes (C5, PLO1)
2. Demonstrate ability in measuring wave characteristics on site (P4, PLO2)
3. Justify his/her behavior within group members in evaluating coastal engineering issues(A3, PLO5)

KEM PANTAI (BEACH CAMP):

Students working in groups (maximum of five students per group) are required to carry out and document a
24-hour measurement of the coastal wave characteristics, including height, length, period, surface celerity,
tidal level, wind direction, and wind speed. Besides that, descriptions on beach land-use, its slope, type of
beach as well as the coordinates of measurements should also be documented. The completed report will be
assessed and presentation session will also be carried out two weeks after submission date. All assessments are
based on the projects assessment rubric.

PENILAIAN (ASSESSMENT):

1. Kuiz (Quiz) : 5%
2. Tugasan (Assignment) : 5%
3. Ujian (Test) : 20 %
4. Kem Pantai (Beach Camp) : 20 %
5. Peperiksaan Akhir (Final Examination) : 50 %
Jumlah (Total) : 100 %
