The Fragmented Community and its Transformation

The essential challenge is to transform the isolation and self


interest within our communities into connectedness and
caring for the whole..

Our culture is much more interested in individuality and
independence than interdependence.

Communities offer the promise of belonging and calls for us


to acknowledge our interdependence.

Community health, educational achievement, local economic


strength were dependent on the level of Social Capital that
exists in the community.
Chapter 1 Overview (Insights into
Transformation)
Social Fabric is created one room at a time. Its is formed
from small steps that ask Who do we want in the
room? and What is the new conversation that we want
to occur?

When changing a community we must know our


resources (Who, What, Where, When and Why)
Chapter 2 Overview (Shifting the
Context for Community)

Context: A set of beliefs, that dictate how we think and frame


the world

Speak it (Linguistic transformation)

Act it (Others empowering change)

Do it (Build social fabric for change)


Chapter 3 Overview (The Stuck
Community)

In addition to marketing fear, the stuck community


markets fault.

We have the capacity to change the community.

community in order to fulfill our desire to reduce human
