Learning Objective 1.6 The student will create and solve one-step story and picture
problems using basic addition facts with sums to 18 or less and
the corresponding subtraction facts.

Activity In class the teacher will

create 2 addition and 2 subtraction story problem. Along with
the verbal stating of the problem, the teacher will write and
draw the problem on the board and allow students to solve. For
homework, Students will be given an animal and a number, in
which they must create their own story problem. Students will
then go home, and with assistance from their parents use the
website https://www.storyjumper.com/ to create a 7-page
story problem book. The story problem must include both
addition and subtraction. The book must include:
Front Cover with a title
Dedication page (leave blank)
Pages 2,4,5, and 6 should have a sentence and pictures
to go along with the story.

Directions for Use 1. Click on the internet explorer icon. (should be blue and
resemble the letter e.)
2. Type in https://www.storyjumper.com/.
3. At the top right of the screen click on the word Login.
The username is the childs first initial, middle initial,
last initial, and year of birth. Ex. User- ecl2010. The
password is: 1grade.
4. Once logged in, you will be able to change the
password. Change the password to the first four letters
of the childs name plus their age. Ex. etha6
5. After you change the password, you will be on the
home page on the site. Click on make new book.
6. Under pick a new book click blank. (Optional: watch
video on how to create a new book.)
7. On the bottom of page you should see blank white
blocks with numbers underneath. Click on the first blue
square that has the words front cover underneath.
You may change the color of the cover page using the
colored squares to the left.
8. Click on click to add title. Example title: How many
(name of animal) are in my house?
9. Underneath the title click on click to add Authors
Name. Type your first and last name.
10. Next, click the white box that has the number 2
underneath.
11. On the left side of screen, click the first box underneath
the word text. The box should say big text box.
12. Type the first sentence of the story. Ex. I have (# of
animal).
13. After you type the sentence click on props, which is
located on the left side of the screen directly
underneath text.
14. In search props type the name of the animal. If you do
not like the images available and want more options
click on search photos, which is underneath the
images given to you.
15. Once you click on the image you want, the Image will go
directly in underneath the props search box.
16. Click on the image underneath props. It will
automatically go to the top left corner of the page you
are working on.
17. Using the mouse, left click on the image, and drag the
image underneath the sentence. The numerical number
on the page needs to be represented by that many
images. For example, if the first page says I have 6
cats, then there should be six cats on the page.
18. Once you have completed page 2, click on the next page
and continue your story repeating steps 11-17.
 19. If you want to delete pages 8-16, click on the red x that
is next to the white blank page box.
20. After you are done, click on save and exit, which is
located at the right top of the screen.
21. Then press logout at the top right of the screen.
