ARD Meeting Attendance/Interview

1. Who attended the ARD and what is each members purpose at the ARD?
a. Principal and Vice Principal - acts as the mediator and leads the meeting
b. Diagnostician - provides diagnostics and helps evaluate the individual
c. SPED/Resource Teachers - specialist on disabilities and understands the
students needs
d. Gen Ed teachers - to provide insight on the students classroom behavior and
academic standing
e. Speech Teacher - relaying the students progress within the Speech program
f. Occupational Therapist - to relay the students progress within the OT program
g. Parents - to discuss the students current standing and to share goals and needs
of the student
2. Who appeared to be the ARD facilitator or coordinator?
a. I feel like it was a mix between the principal and the diagnostician. The principal
opened and closed the meeting, but the diagnostician handled the introductions,
transitions, and explanations of each test.
3. What was the purpose of the ARD (Admission, Review, or Dismissal)?
a. The purpose of this ARD was to review the students progress and standing.
4. What kind of information (assessment, instructional, behavioral, etc.) was shared by
each committee member?
a. Academic standing, grades, DRAs, STAAR scores, behavior in class, what work
has been done/how, whether current educational goals have been met or not
5. Particularly, what appeared to be the general educator's role and responsibility as a
committee member?
a. Verbal summary relating classroom experience: grades, engagement, initiative,
and behavior
6. How were educational goals and objectives determined? How were accommodations
and modifications determined?
a. The committee had previously established goals and was reviewing the students
progress, however not enough progress was being made so the committee has
recommending retesting and further evaluations. In the meantime, more
accommodations were set (such as extra time in CM and more time on
assignments) to help the student succeed.
7. How did the committee arrive at decisions concerning the student's least restrictive
environment (LRE)?
a. The committee arrived at the decision to place the student in an
inclusion/co-teach/resource environment based on the results of testing and
evaluations. This data determines where the student will do best based on the
students developmental level and abilities. The issue will be readdressed once
retesting is completed.
8. As a general educator, what would you need to do to prepare to participate in an ARD
meeting? What do you feel is necessary for you to be the most effective ARD team
member possible?
a. Assuming the student is in my homeroom, I would need grades, assessments,
scores, and all documentation pertaining to the student.
b. I feel that being prepared and producing an honest, objective report of the
students abilities and behavior will allow me to be the most effective ARD
member possible.
