Essential Strategy The essential strategy that the students will use is word
study. This strategy helps the students by analyzing
words through vocabulary and rhymes. This provides
the students with expanding vocabulary, spelling,
reading, and writing.

Write short Teacher: Tell students that we are going to read a book, hand out a
descriptions worksheet and explain, This is a worksheet that has words from the
here book. You have to listen and when you hear a word from the book, I want
you to circle that word.

Students : Listen and put their name on their paper.

Teacher: Reads the book.

Students: Circle all the words they hear.

Teacher: Finish the book, give students time to finish circling, then ask
what words they heard.

Students: Finish circling and share the words they circled

Teacher: Explains the sheet they have in front of them is also a matching

Match all the rhyming words you see.

Students: Ask any questions, match the rhyming words they see

Teacher: Ask the class what words rhymed

Students: Share their answers.


Extension/Closure Activity

Description of What Teacher and Students Do:

Write short The closure activity will be an online, interactive technology game. It

Bingo based game where the students will be provided with a word
and then have to choose the rhyming word out of a number of
words.

If they get it right they get positive feedback from the computer. If
the students get it wrong, the computer will sound out both the
words to prove that it is not a match.

Students that need additional support will be provided with teacher-


guided help.

To practice, they will come up with their own examples.

Assessment will be through the matching game given during the


book
