Title of Artifact: Lesson Plan #2
Standard: Standard Seven- Planning for Instruction

I am placing my artifact, Lesson Plan #2, under Standard Seven, Planning for Instruction, as
evidence of continued mastery towards planning instructions that support every student. As a
teacher, I need to know how my students learn and what their strengths and weaknesses are. For
this lesson plan the students will be observing how a lima bean can grow in a wet paper towel
taped to the window for sunlight. Each student will have a different way of observing what they
see happening to the lima bean as it grows. This lesson plan collaborates with Standard Seven,
Planning for Instruction, because it allows students to learn in different ways.
I. Title/ Topic and Grade Level:
Where things grow
Kindergarten

II. Lesson Essential Question:

Will the children be able to understand the concept that the lima bean will grow when
wrapped in a wet towel and placed in the sun?

III. Standard:
K-LS1-1. Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including
humans) need to survive
K-ESS2-2. Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals
(including humans) can change the environment to meet their needs.

IV. Objectives and Assessments:

Learning Objective: Assessments:
Students will be able to (SWBAT) Teachers will be able to (TWBAT) assess
construct their own sprout house with a students acquired knowledge by
lima bean, wet paper towel, and the sun observing the children while they are

Tell the children that they will be a farmer today and that they will be growing their own
plant. We will be wrapping a lima bean in a wet paper towel and taping it up on the
window. At first they wont notice much, but after a few days they will see the lima bean
starting to sprout!

VIII. Instructional Plan:

1. Have the children sit at their seats
2. Give the children some markers and crayons
3. Then give them the sprout house cutout and allow them to decorate it however they
would like
4. Give them My Little Sprout House label and glue it onto the front
5. Give each child a lima bean, Ziploc bag, and a paper towel
6. Have the children go up to the sink one by one with their paper towel and Ziploc bag
7. Wet the paper towel (damp- not soaking wet) and place it into the bag
8. Return to their seat and place the lima bean in the bag so the bean is covered by the
wet paper towel
9. Tape on the sprout house cutout to the plastic bag
10. Make sure their name is on each one so they know which one is theirs
