Subject: Project 2: Technical Documentation Memo

This memo illustrates my technical documentation after making project decisions for Project 2.
The memo outlines the sections audience, purpose, and definition for the technical definition,
and audience, purpose, visual choice, and organizing pattern for the technical description. The
term chosen for both the definition and description is reuse-oriented software engineering.

Term: Reuse-Oriented Software Engineering

Extended Technical Definition

Audience: My audience for the extended technical definition are the stakeholders at a
stakeholder meeting, where they have no knowledge of how software development
works. All the shareholders possess a college education.

Purpose/Need: The purpose is to help stakeholders understand what reuse-oriented

software engineering is in terms of development and costs.

Extending the Definition: I plan to begin with discussing what reuse-oriented software
engineering is, then I will extend that definition to how it relates to the cost and resources
of development compared to other methods of software engineering. I will also explain ts
qualities, as well as providing a real-life example of reuse-oriented software engineering.
Then I will provide an analogy of purchasing a kit that has materials needed for building
a birdhouse vs. having to build everything from the ground up.

Technical Description

Audience: My audience for the technical description is a customer for a software

company, where the customer has little experience with software development.

Purpose/Need: The purpose is to help the customer understand the stages of reuse-
oriented software engineering using a general software process model (sequence of
phases for entire lifetime of a product). This will help the customer visualize how it
works in detail by going through each stage of the process with a visual aid.

Visual Choice: Im going to be using Smart Art Graphics from Word 2016 to create a
diagram of reuse-oriented software engineering, basing it off of a similar diagram from a
textbook (but making needed changes for the context of this project).

Organizing Pattern: The sequential pattern is the organizing pattern I plan to use, I will
keep the diagram the right of text, put the steps in bold, and discuss each step. I also will
begin with a quick introduction to all the stages present.
