How to back up and restore the Backup4all configurations

Summary
This article explains how to backup and restore Backup4all's settings, the
backup jobs, the scheduled task files and other necessary files. We have
created a backup plugin that automatically backs up these files. The
Backup4all configurations plugin is already installed by default in
Backup4all's plugins list.

Details
Saving Backup4all's configurations ensures you that you can have the same
backup jobs and settings after a system reinstall or after moving to another
computer. Defining a backup with the Backup4all Configurations plugin
will include the following items in the actual backup file:

For Backup4all 4:

 The Initialization Folder


 The Catalog Folder
 The Log Folder
 The Plugins Folder
 The Scheduled jobs Folder
 The Ini File
 The History File
 The Icons File
 The Layout File

For Backup4all 3:

 The Initialization Folder


 The Catalog Folder
 The Log Folder
 The Scheduled jobs Folder
 The Error file
 The Icons file
 The Ini file
 The Layout file

How to back up Backup4all's configurations
You don't have to browse your computer to find the necessary files to be
backed up. The Backup4all configurations plugin will back up the files you
need. Follow these steps to create a backup that saves Backup4all's
configurations:

For Backup4all 4:

1. Open Backup4all and select File->New Backup (Ctrl+N). On the


first page enter a name for the backup in the Backup Name field.
2. In the Where do you want to save your backup section, select a
destination for backup. Click Next.
3. On the What do you want to backup page, choose “Backup
Configurations” plugin from the drop-down list. You will see the files
and folder that will be backed up. Click Next.
4. On the How do you want to backup page, select the backup type.
By default, the Make Incremental option is selected.
5. Click Save->Save and run.

For Backup4all 3:

1. Open Backup4all and select File->New Backup Wizard (Ctrl+N).


On the General page enter a name for the backup in the Name field
and choose “Backup Configurations” from the Predefined Backups
list. Click Next.
2. On the Sources page, you will see the files and folder that will be
backed up. Click Next.
3. On the Destination page, select a destination for the backup. Click
Next.
4. On the Type page, select the backup type. By default, the
Incremental type is selected. Click Next.
5. Click Finish.
6. Press the Backup (F6) button to run the backup.

How to restore Backup4all's configurations

Steps to follow:

1. Install Backup4all on your computer and open it.


2. Delete the sample backup jobs.
3. Using Backup4all open the Backup4all Configurations catalog from
the backup destination.

4. Press the Restore (F7) button to open the Restore Wizard. For
advanced restore configurations, please see this video tutorial:

5. Press Finish.

Note: If you are restoring Backup4all configurations on a computer that has


a different Windows login username and password than the one you
originally backed up the configurations from, the scheduled tasks need to be
reconfigured.

You cannot restore in Backup4all 4 the backup configurations from


Backup4all 3. The backup jobs need to be imported in Backup4all 4.
