Donde x1,..., xn son las incgnitas, b1,..., bm se denominan trminos independientes y los nmeros
aij se llaman coeficientes de las incgnitas.
Dado un sistema de ecuaciones, el objetivo principal es hallar todas sus soluciones, es decir, hallar
todos los valores de x1,..., xn que verifican todas las ecuaciones.
Atendiendo al nmero de soluciones, los sistemas de ecuaciones lineales podemos clasificarlos en tres
tipos:
Sistema incompatible: son aquellos que no poseen solucin.
Sistema compatible: son aquellos que poseen solucin. Dentro de ellos, podemos hablar de:
Sistema compatible determinado: sistemas con una nica solucin.
Sistema compatible indeterminado: sistemas con infinitas soluciones.
En un sistema de ecuaciones lineales slo se pueden dar una de estas tres situaciones: o no tiene
solucin, o tiene una nica solucin, o tiene infinitas soluciones.

SISTEMA DE ECUACIONES LINEALES
Sea dado un sistema de m ecuaciones lineales con n incgnitas del tipo general:

Se denomina solucin del sistema (1) todo vector columna de n componentes de X que convierte la
ecuacin matricial (2) en una igualdad
Sabemos que un sistema se denomina Consistente o Compatible, si tiene por lo menos una solucin, de
lo contrario se denomina Inconsistente o Incompatible.
Para que el sistema (1) sea consistente es necesario y suficiente que se verifique:

A ' ( A | B) es la matriz aumentada o ampliada del sistema (1)
(A) : Rango de la matriz A
b. Que el sistema (1) tenga ms de una solucin. En este caso el nmero de incgnitas del sistema
es mayor que el rango de la matriz aumentada. Es decir, el sistema (1) tendr ms de una
solucin , si y solo si
