Background

polio is an infectious disease categorized as a disease of

civilization. Polio is spread through human contact. Polio
can spread quietly because most people infected with
poliovirus have no symptoms, so do not know if they
themselves are infected. The virus enters the body
through the mouth when a person is consuming food or
beverages contaminated feces. After a person is exposed
to infection, the virus will come out through the feces for
several weeks and that's when the virus transmission can
occur. b. The etiology of this disease-carrying agent, a
virus called poliovirus (PV), enters the body through the
mouth, intestinal tract infection and spread to the
bloodstream

Result and Discussion

Poliomyelitis, or polio, is a paralysis or paralytic disease

caused by a virus. Carriers of the disease agent, a virus called
poliovirus (PV), enter the body through the mouth, intestinal tract
infection. The virus can enter the bloodstream and flows into the
central nervous system causing muscle weakness and sometimes
paralysis (paralysis). Cramps: muscle stiffness paralysis: Unable to
move the limbs are paralyzed

Polio (Poliomyelitis) is a highly contagious virus infection that

attacks the entire body (including muscles and nerves) and can
cause permanent muscle weakness, paralysis or death.

Transmission of the virus occur in several ways:

- Directly from person to person,
- Through the spark saliva of patients, and
- Through the feces of patients.

SYMPTOMS
There are three basic patterns of polio infection:
1.Infections are subclinical(no symptoms or symptoms last for less than 72 hours)
- Mild fever
- Headache
- Not feeling well
- Sore throat

2. Non-paralytic poliomyelitis (symptoms last for 1-2 weeks)

- Fever being
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- vomiting

3. paralytic poliomyelitis
- Fever occur 5-7 days before other symptoms
- Headache
- Stiff neck and back
3
The risk of polio:
* Not to get polio immunization
* Traveling to areas where polio is still common
* Pregnancy
* Age is very advanced or very young
* Sores in the mouth / nose / throat (eg removal of tonsils or had
undergone tooth extraction)
* Stress or physical exhaustion unusual (for emotional and physical
stress can weaken the immune system).

Conclusion
TREATMENT

Polio is incurable and anti-viral drugs do not affect the course of this disease.

If respiratory muscles become weak, can be used ventilators.

The main goal of treatment is to control symptoms while the infection lasts. To
maximize the recovery of muscle strength and function may need physical therapy,
use of corrective shoes or a brace or orthopedic surgery.
