was
standing
by
the
basket
ball
hoop
inside
the
classroom
when
I
saw
him.
He
was
holding
a
plastic
scissor,
and
was
really
focused
in
trying
to
cut
the
basket
ball
net.
Mahd
was
using
both
his
hands
to
hold
the
scissors.
Not
wanting
to
break
his
concentration
I
watched
and
waited
for
him
for
a
few
minutes
before
offering
him
proper
scissor
and
paper
to
cut.
He
happily
accepted
and
sat
at
the
table.
Cutting
is
a
difficult
task
as
it
envolves
hand
eye
co-ordinaton
and
fine
motor
skills.
Mahd
again
used
both
his
hand
to
hold
the
scisssor.
I
showed
him
how
to
hold
it
with
one
hand
and
idicated
the
open
shut
motion
to
cut.
I
held
the
paper
up
for
him
to
make
it
easier
to
cut.
Mahd
kept
cutting
and
asking
me
to
shift
the
paper
so
he
could
cut
the
other
sides.
Sscissor
exercises
are
important
for
developing
fine
motor
skills,
hand
eye
co-ordination
and
The
first
thing
a
child
should
learn
for
scissor
cutting
is
how
to
open
and
close
their
hand
and
feel
the
sensation
of
cutting
a
piece
of
paper.
Since
Mahd
is
having
difficulty
manipulating
the
scissors,
I
will
insha
Allah
get
Mahd
to
try
using
other
instruments
or
doing
other
tasks
associated
to
cutting.
For
instance,
tongs,
tweezers,
and
hole- punchers
require
the
same
open-close
motion
of
scissors.
We
recommend
same
activities
are
offered
at
home.
