Locomotor

Tic-Tac-Toe
By Paige White

Grade: 3rd-5th
Equipment Needed: 9 Hula Hoops, 6 Colored Beanbags (Two Colors)
Objectives: Students will learn basic locomotor movements through a relay of life-
sized Tic-Tac-Toe.
Game:
o Hula Hoops make up the Tic-Tac-Toe board and the Bean Bags are the Xs
and Os.
o Each team is represented by one color of beanbags.
o After being broken up into two teams, players will take turns laying down a
beanbag when it is their turn in the relay line.
o The student in the front of the line must be tagged in by the player coming
back before he/she can go past the boundary line to lay their beanbag down.
o The goal of the game is to get three of the same color beanbag in a row like a
game of Tic-Tac-Toe.
o Each team will only get three beanbags. If three in a row is not achieved after
they are all laid down, then beanbags can start being rearranged.
o After each game the method of locomotor movement to get to the bags will
change.
o Round 1: Speed Walking (one foot on the group at all times, no flight
phase)
o Round 2: Running
o Round 3: Skipping (one knee up high while other drives into ground)
o Round 4: Bunny Hop (both feet leave ground at same time)
o Round 5: Frog Jumps (squat down, hop with both feet like a frog)
o Round 6: Crab Walks (squat down, lean back, walk backwards on hands and
feet)
o Round 7: Inchworm (hands out and down, walk legs up to hands, then walk
hands out again)
