After thinking about the Assignment 19 control issues with unit productivity you start
looking at some of the other numbers on the spreadsheet and you wonder about quality
control. The previous manager left you a sheet that said the QC goal for each supervisor is
to have 3.99% average defects or fewer and the strategy for achieving this to have all
workers with three or more years seniority have at least 12 training hours in quality
control. In talking to your supervisors you find that all of them have all of their workers
performing quality control except for Andrea who says, I spot check it myself, thats how I
lead. While training hours for QC are not reportedly separately from other training you
1. Do any of the supervisors fall short of the QC goal and if so, who?
2. Do any of the supervisors workers appear to not meet the strategy and if so which
3. Looking at the general factors for how quality is achieved, how do things stand right now
for each factor? Are there any changes that should be made? Answer this in terms of the
four functions of management and their being addressed or not and how?
1. The supervisors who fall short of the QC goal are Bill, Carol, Dorthea, and Frank.
2. There are many workers who do not meet the strategy. For Andrea, they are Anuj, Bob,
Camila, Damone, and Veronica with Theo not counting because he doesnt have at least
three years of seniority. For Bill, all of his workers meet the strategy except candy, Da-
Xia, and Rob because they dont have at least three years of seniority. All of Carols and
Dortheas employees have met the strategy requirement. For Elaine, everyone has met the
strategy requirement except for Carlos, Suzie, and Theresa; because they dont have at
least three years of seniority. All of Franks employees have met the strategy requirement
seniority each worker has under each supervisor. This falls under the category of planning
because it is each managers job to give the supervisors the employees according to the
amount of experience, how much work each employee puts in and absenteeism. These
factors are important because it tells which workers will fit best with what managers and
who can and cannot meet requirements and goals. The amount of training each worker
has under the supervisors is organizing. Each worker is organized by the numbers on the
chart for each supervisor. The amount of training effects the productivity level, the defect
of productivity and the delivery of work. This indicates that the more experience and
training you have and the quality of work you put in can be dependent on hourly and
annual wage.
The most important thing I would change s to make sure that Andrea is leading the group
the way everyone else is. If she is leading her workers in a way that is different than
everyone else, then her employees are following and because she is a leader, she should
be doing whats best for the company, not what she thinks is right. Its important to have
Andrea on the same page and have the training hours as the other supervisors because it
gives the company a chance to see what needs to be controlled and what areas are
stronger than others. If some areas of training are weaker for some supervisors then
others, the company can find a way to control and help the workers. This goes with any
