Welcome to
KINGSTON, NY
As Mayor of Kingston, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our city!
Located on the banks of the Hudson River and just 90 miles north of New York
City, Kingston is the perfect destination for a day trip, long weekend, extended
stay or business relocation.

As you spend time in our beautiful Rondout Waterfront District, enjoy an

afternoon kayak or boat ride on the Rondout Creek, take a family stroll along
our waterfront promenade, or attend one of our incredibly popular cultural
festivals. In Midtown, take in a show at the majestic Ulster Performing Arts
Center, savor delicious cuisines offered at a wide variety of international
eateries, and discover the hundreds of artists and arts enterprises operating in
our newly established Kingston Midtown Arts District. In our Historic Uptown
Stockade District, I encourage you to enjoy the weekly farmers market, the
concentration of local history museums and landmarks, and the multiple
large-scale community celebrations, including events such as the nationally
recognized O+ Festival and our annual New Years Eve bash. While youre
here, enjoy one of our eleven community parks, including a riverfront beach at
Kingston Point and our popular and family-friendly Forsyth Nature Center.

From fine dining to charming cafes, upscale galleries to public murals, world
renowned performers to up and coming bands, theres something for everyone
here in Kingston.

On behalf of the residents and business owners of the City of Kingston, we

hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Sincerely

Steve Noble, Mayor

The Burning of Kingston

The Burning of Kingston is a weekend-long celebration of
American history, bravery, sacrifice and resilience.

On a Fall October day in 1777, British troops set fire to the newly established
capital of the State of New York - Kingston. Since most of the local militia
were fighting battles elsewhere (such as at the Battle of Saratoga), the
vulnerable city burned down with over 300 buildings lost in just hours.
Since many of the buildings were made of stone, we can still see examples
of them standing today. The event was a dramatic moment in the American
Revolutionary War that hardened the determination of colonists to gain their
independence, and for local citizens to rebuild Kingston stronger than ever.
The Burning of Kingston is a biennial event. For more information about
the 2017 Burning of Kingston including directions, historic maps, weekend
discount information and how you can volunteer, visit the website at
