Overview. In conjunction with your school principal (and/or other

organizational leaders), you are to identify a specific project a building principal/staff
may use to improve the buildings existing public relations efforts to work with parents,
and/or other internal/external community members, (with a special eye towards
cultural competence and technology issues). The task involves the planning and
development work, and if at all possible, the actual implementation. This project may
require at least four or more hours of time to complete the project. (This activity
addresses Standards 1.1, 3.1, 3.3, 4.1, 4.2).

Recent examples of such activities include the following: improving a school

and/or classroom newsletter; improving a school and/or classroom website (or
developing a new one), developing a school, or program brochure, planning for an
expanded open house, or other parent/community forum, creating positive postcards
and procedures, improving parent/teacher conferences and/or open houses, developing
a new student/parent welcome and/or orientation packet, developing parent, student
and/or teacher surveys, develop training sessions for teachers (e.g., how to
work/communicate with parents), or workshops for parents on how to utilize
computers/tablets to increase their literacy skills, or develop a crisis plan flipchart.

Individual Project Submission Requirements. At this juncture, you have

collected a lot of data about the community, district, and school level characteristics. You
have also had the opportunity to interview a cadre of district and building level leaders.

you feel this proposed project is important. This proposal should be submitted for
approval on or before 5 April 2017.
