a. What have you learned about the arts from

participating in this class?

There are many things that I have learned from participating in

the Bridging the Arts class. I have learned that there are many
artistic elements that make up a piece of art whether it a visual
(art), dance, music, or even theater. Which to me was quite difficult
at first and intimidating because I never knew much about art or
how to analyze a piece of art. This class has changed my
perspective and appreciation for art in a completely different
manner. Understanding the elements such as, tone, movements,
emotions, energy, rhythm, timbre, shape-space, color Allowed me
to engage and understand the piece with great detail.

This class has also helped with getting me out of my comfort

zone as we participated in many activities. These activities
consisted of dancing, reading poetry, acting, and even imitating
someone elses movements. Which was a lot harder than I thought!
There is a lot of time and effort that goes into art and that is why I
have learned to appreciate all the different forms/types of art. My
favorite piece to analyze was the visual art because there is so
much a drawing, painting, or statue can tell you without even
realizing unless you use the descriptive word bank to help you
critique a piece. And everyone also has a different understanding of
the piece, which makes it even more interesting because his or her
interpretation might be completely different.

b. What did you learn about the communicative

potential (the feeling or meaning) of the arts
by viewing a live performance?

There are many factors that come into play when you attend a
live performance. My favorite performance that I attended was
music and ill explain why The volume of the music is a big factor.
The volume adds to the drama and scale of a concert in a way that
again, nothing else compares. I know theatres and dances can be
loud and big but those performances can never conjure the same
emotions as music. You can also relate to music and many ways. To
me the rhythm and lyrics are the most important factor.

Thirdly the shared experience is also a key reason. Music has

always been a group experience and it bonds people in many ways.
To share a performance by musicians who you enjoy deeply
connects everyone there to each other and perhaps more
importantly to the musicians also. We are sharing their joy of
playing and their musical proficiency in a way that's impossible in
any other situation.

Lastly, if the lights are great, our senses are being overwhelmed.
Hearing, seeing and the shear emotion that music we love invokes
together with the shared joy of the crowd.
