Matter is all around us and Describes changes in materials
There are three states of used in activities
matter. The three states are Communicates ideas
solids, liquids, and gases. Asks questions and attempts
Solids have their own shape. answers based on observations
Liquids take the shape of things Repeating an activity
like containers, bowls, and accurately and recognizing
bottles. Gas has no shape at results and similarities or
all, like the air we breathe but changes if made
can be put into special things Uses tools to gather data
called balloons. Gives accurate descriptions
VOCABULARY/KEY TERMS:
MATTER, SOLID, LIQUID, GAS, MELT, FREEZE, BOIL, AIR, STEAM, MASS, VOLUME,
SHAPE, CONTAINER, EVAPORATION, MOLECULE, PHYSICAL CHANGE,
Students will participate and rotate between three stations dedicated to the
states of matters. The first station will allow students to investigate the
changes in objects that are melting, evaporating, dissolving, etcetera.
Students will accurately describe and cause changes in states of matter in
center number one. (Tasks will include observing melting ice in water/ and in
hands, observing steam from a hot cup of liquid, squeezing playdoh,
etcetera.) The second station will use wall space that allows the students to
attach Velcro images of examples to corresponding state of matter. Examples
will be objects of daily use and combinations that will help students solidify
facts and identify concepts of matter in daily life and their use of common
objects. Students will create concept maps, and audio to demonstrate their
knowledge.
Discussions
FINAL PERFORMANCE TASK: Students will perform the song they created with
props that demonstrate lyrics and accurately represent states of matter and
their properties.
LEARNING PLAN & ACTIVITIES:
Instruction that allows the students to demonstrate changes in
matter outside (playground, park, ground, etc) Students will be able
to relate the use of energy in how the states of matter changes.
Activities where students change liquids to gas with the use of
natural heat could be incorporated.
demonstrate achievement throughout participation in activities,
progress in games, completion of quizzes, and oral communication.
Students will reflect upon their learning during activities that require
their knowledge for them to fully participate. Discussions led by the
teacher and in small groups will allow students to ask and answer
each others questions, make inferences, and help to provide more
examples of states of matter and their changes.
