I.2 Explanation of the functions and controls

I.2.1 - Functions

The wash basins have two functions: the distribution of water and the dispensing of
soap.

I.2.2 - Controls

The controls for water distribution and soap dispensing differ, according to the type of
wash basin. There are two methods, mechanical and electronic.

a- Water distribution

Mechanical: Water is distributed by means of a knee control. The leg action operates the
opening and closing of the water supply. There is, therefore, no manual contact
with the controls.

Electronic: Water is distributed by means of an electric device. An infra-red cell detects

the presence of the person in front of the wash basin. It opens a solenoid valve,
allowing the water to flow. Once the station has been vacated, after a time
lapse of a few seconds (time for rinsing the wash basin), the solenoid valve
closes again and shuts off the water supply.

b- Soap dispensing

Mechanical: Distribution is by means of an elbow-operated soap dispenser.

Electronic: It is dispensed by means of an electric device. An infra-red cell detects the

presence of the hand under the dispenser head. It activates the pump which
draws in the soap and dispenses it into the hands of the user. As soon as the
hands are withdrawn, the pump stops.

c- Electrical supply to the wash basin

A 230V electrical plug (earthed), used to connect the wash basin to the mains, must be
protected by a 30mA max. residual current device and placed at a distance in
compliance with current regulations.

An ultra low-voltage switch (18V) is positioned on the side of the wash basin. It can
be used to cut the power supply to the wash basin.

Chapter II Start-up

II 1 Recommendations

Do not use chlorinated products (such as Javel water). Some parts of the device are
not compatible with these products and will be damaged.

II 2 Start-up

The start-up procedure is as follows:

1. Switch on the wash basin (for electronic and electro-mechanical models).

2. Check that there is still some soap in the bottle.

3. Place hands under the dispenser head to obtain soap (for electronic models).

4. Place hands in front of the swan neck to obtain water (for electronic and electro-

Chapter IV - Installation

IV 1 - Requirements

The following are required for all types of wash basins:

- A supply of cold water, a 10/12 pipe with a 15/21 male fitting and a stopcock,
- A supply of hot water, a 10/12 pipe with a 15/21 male fitting and a stopcock,
- A 40 diameter water outlet.

For electronic and electro-mechanical wash basins:

A 230V electrical plug (earthed), used to connect the wash basin to the mains, must be
protected by a 30mA max. residual current device and placed at a distance in
compliance with current regulations.

IV2 Surgical wash basins

IV 2.1 Old models

The wash basins are preassembled and connected at the factory in an 18/10 stainless
steel frame.
You are advised to install the wash basin so that the edge of the basin is at a height of
90 cm. To do this, you need to:

Place the positioning rail 1.19 m from the floor and fix it.
Remove the six screws that hold the body and the frame together, take off the
electric plug, the chain and the water pipe linking the frame and the body.
Place the frame on the positioning rail. Make sure that it is level and centred.
Fix the frame onto the wall using 4 screws and plugs to suit the wall type.
Replace the body onto its frame. Reconnect the electric plug, the chain and the water
pipe linking the frame and the body. Replace the 6 screws that hold them together.
Purge your water pipes, to empty them of any impurities that could prevent the
solenoid valves from working correctly.
Connect in accordance with your outlets (cold water, hot water and evacuation).
Flexible pipes are to be used for the connections. Make sure that you have correctly
matched the hot water of your installation with the hot water on the wash basin (red
label).
Plug the wash basin into the power supply outlet.

SURGICAL WASH BASINS Version A / Technical dossier 16

Then,

Open the water supply. Check there are no leaks.

Switch on the wash basin (for electronic and electro-mechanical models.
Put the soap bottle in its housing.
Place your hand under the soap dispenser. Wait for 30 seconds for the tubes to fill
and check that the soap arrives (for electronic dispensers).
Set the pressure reducing gauge to 3 bar (under wash basins fitted with a prefiltering
device).
For electronic water distribution, place your hand in front of the cells positioned next
to the swan necks and make sure that the water is flowing.
The detection distance is pre-set at the factory. If you wish to change it, proceed as if
it were a repair (chapter 6, section VI 5) and follow the instructions.
For mechanical water distribution, operate the knee control and make sure that water
is flowing.
The wash basin is now ready for use.

In case of problems, contact LABORATOIRES ANIOS.

IV 2.2 New models

The wash basins are preassembled and connected at the factory in an 18/10 stainless
steel frame.
You are advised to install the wash basin so that the edge of the basin is at a height of
90cm. To do this, you need to:

Place the positioning rail 1.09m from the floor and fix it.

SURGICAL WASH BASINS Version A / Technical dossier 17

Then,
Open the water supply. Check there are no leaks.
Set the water cells (detection distance):

Adjusting the range (50 to 400 millimetres +/- 20 %)

Testing will help you to set the range. While the power is switched on, put your hand
10cm maximum from the head for about 5s so that the sensor LED flashes. Then
take away your hand for about 5s. The LED then comes on permanently and you
place your hand at the required detection distance. When the LED goes out, the cell
registers the distance and goes into the standard working mode. Check the setting
and repeat the operation if necessary.
The LED output light comes on when the output is activated.

Adjusting the timer (+/- 20%)

The potentiometer situated in the housing enables the timer to be set for the various
modes. It can be set from 1 to 10 min for mode 1, from 3 to 15s for mode 3 and 4,
and from 0.5 to 3s for mode 5

Renew the operation for each cell.

Put the soap bottle in its housing.
Place your hand under the soap dispenser. Wait for 30 seconds for the tubes to fill
and check that the soap arrives (for electronic dispensers).
Set the pressure reducing gauge to 3 bar (under wash basins fitted with a prefiltering
device).
Place your hand in front of the cells positioned next to the swan necks and make sure
that the water is flowing.

In case of problems, contact LABORATOIRES ANIOS.

SURGICAL WASH BASINS Version A / Technical dossier 18

IV 3 - Prefiltering

A 0.5 prefiltering device is fitted on filtering wash basins, and is an option on others.

The prefiltering device comprises a casing containing a cartridge. The cartridge lasts for an
average of 4 months, depending on the water quality and how often the wash basin is used.

VI 5 Guidelines for dismantling for repairs

VI 5.1 Electro-mechanical and electronic surgical wash basins (polyester versions)

The wash basin does not need to be removed from the wall to carry out repairs:

1 Unplug the wash basin from the power supply.

2 Close the water supply (hot and cold).
3 Disconnect the outflow tube on the U-bend.

Three screws are now holding the body to the frame on each side of the wash basin.

4 Loosen the lower screw.

5 Remove the two upper screws.
6 Tip the body forward. It will be held by two chains (see diagram below).

You can then access the various parts.

To fix it back on to the wall:

1 Tip the body back towards the wall.

2 Replace the two upper screws and tighten the lower screw.
3 Reconnect the outflow tube on the U-bend.
4 Open the water supplies.
5 Plug the wash basin back into the power supply.

SURGICAL WASH BASINS Version A / Technical dossier 56

VI 5.2 Mechanical surgical wash basins

1 - Close the water supply (hot and cold).

2 - Disconnect the outflow tube on the U-bend.
3 Remove the wash basin from the wall (if necessary) by lifting it up.

You can then access the various parts.

To fix it back on to the wall:

1 Hang the wash basin on the rail.

2 - Reconnect the outflow tube on the U-bend.
3 - Open the water supplies (hot and cold).

VI 6- Characteristics of main components

VI6.1 Infrared cell

a - Description

The cell enables the presence of a hand to be detected. It then starts the pump and
delivers the soap.
The same process occurs for water distribution.

b Technical data

The infrared cell is powered by an 18 V AC and sends a 24 V DC signal to the soap

pump or to the solenoid valve for water distribution.

d - Warning

Make sure you have correctly wired the cell. The red and the blue wires connect to the
pump (or to the solenoid valve). It is important not to mix the wires, or the pump will
run backwards.

Installation

The housing must be fixed to a clean, dry surface using double-sided adhesive tape or
glue. To avoid problems caused by damp, it is highly recommended that the housing
be fixed with the wires facing downwards.

Operation

This cell has 5 operating modes:

Mode 1 "bistable + tempo 1-10 min". This allows for the solenoid valve to be
activated for a period of 1 to 10 min to fill a basin. Change in the output state occurs
each time presence is detected.

Mode 2 "soap presence". This allows for soap to be dispensed, once presence is
detected, with a 30-second safety timer. The output is then deactivated and the
detector LED flashes. The standard operating mode is reset when detection ceases.

Mode 3 "water 3-15 s". This allows water to run in order to rinse the basin. There is
a comfort timer of between 3 and 15 seconds that is set by the potentiometer. After 30s
of continuous detection, the cell switches to a safety mode. The output is then
deactivated and the detector LED flashes. The standard operating mode is reset when
detection ceases.

Mode 4 "water 3-15 s + automatic flush". This is identical to the mode "water 3-
15s", but with an added timer that allows for a 3-minute automatic flush every 6 hours
of non-use. A 3-minute automatic flush occurs when the power supply is switched on.

Mode 5 "soap dosage". This allows the pump to be activated in presence mode, for a
time period set by the potentiometer from 0.5 to 3s, to dispense a single dosage of
soap.

Adjusting the range (50 to 400 millimetres +/- 20 %)
Testing will help you to set the range. While the power is switched on, put your hand 10cm
maximum from the head for about 5s so that the sensor LED flashes. Then take away your
hand for about 5s. The LED then comes on permanently and you place your hand at the
required detection distance. When the LED goes out, the cell registers the distance and goes
into standard operating mode. Check the setting and repeat the operation if necessary.
The LED output light comes on when the output is activated.

Adjusting the timer (+/- 20%)

The potentiometer situated in the housing enables the timer to be set for the various modes. It
can be set from 1 to 10 min for mode 1, from 3 to 15s for mode 3 and 4, and from 0.5 to 3s for
mode 5.

d - Limits of repair by the customer

The customer can repair the pump in two cases. For other repairs, the pump needs to
be sent to LABORATOIRES ANIOS. However, the first case detailed below is the
most common and involves a consumable necessary for the pump life. The second is
very infrequent.
The cases are tube change or repair and standard pump replacement.
The methods are described below.

e - Repairs performable by the customer

Tube change or repair:

The tube is easily changed by hand, without a tool.

On the upper part, on the pump side, rotate the locking piece (black) clockwise to gain
access to the tube. Then remove the white piece by pulling outwards to the right and to
the left.
Remove the tube from its housing.
Install the new tube. For assembly, reverse the foregoing sequence of operations.
The process for cleaning the tube is the same.

SURGICAL WASH BASINS Version A / Technical dossier 61

Standard pump replacement:

Disconnect the wash basin, remove the pump, disconnect the cables, install the new
pump, position the wiring in the same way (this is important for safety, ease of
dismantling, and body movement (polyester version)).

VI 6.3 Solenoid valve
