Peace Church Council Meeting March 8th, 2017


Attending: Jim Johnson, Gaylene Hanson, Joyce Hanson, Lexi Danner, Sandy Kashmark, Lois Scherer, Marilyn Frykman, Tom Gardner

Absent: Charles Johnson, Pastor Evenson {Lenten worship at the Moe churches during the meeting time}
Visitors: Leon Johnson, Kaleb Getz, and Heather Danner
Meeting called to order by Chairman Tom at 6:30 p.m. A welcome to the new council members was voiced by Chairman Tom. Visitors
were acknowledged.
Visitor presentations:
An update re: the roof repair quote was given by Leon Johnson who has volunteered to be the project liaison. Final quote was presented
to the council with a discussion following re: specifics. Motion was made by Lois with a second by Jim to accept the bid from Odyssey
Steel for $13,451.25. MC Treasurer Sandy K. issued a check for the 50% down payment which Leon will deliver on Thursday, March
9th, 2017 to the vendor.
Youth Director Heather Danner requested council input regarding the planning of the Youth Mission trip for the summer. She is tenta-
tively working with the Youth Works Mission Group. There are various locations available for the youth during the months of June or
July. Tentative expenses per student could range from $229 to $279.00. Heather indicated a target date for early registration is May 1st.
Council consensus is that Heather should proceed with the research for the mission projects and report back with potential plans and
funding needs. Chairman Tom indicated that if a special council meeting was needed to approve the plans, it would be scheduled. There
will be fund raising activities for the trip from the Peace youth and support from the church using available Thrivent funds.
Election of Officers for 2017 Peace Council: Tom Gardner has consented to remain as Chairman for 2017. Marilyn will remain as
council secretary. Nomination to fill the vice chairman position was as following: Motion to submit Joyce Hanson as vice chairman can-
didate was made by Marilyn. Motion made by Lois with a second by Jim to close the ballot. MC Joyce consented to serve in this capaci-
ty.
Administrative Reports:
Pastors report was presented in written form and read by Chairman Tom. The report covered pastoral care visits, meetings, worship
plans, confirmation classes, nursing home services and the challenges presented for office hours during the busy Lenten worship season.

Secretarys report was presented in written form. No edits required.
Treasurers report was presented. Sandy K. will research a report which is more reflective for Sunday school income and expenses for
Sunday school leadership. Questions answered re: various fund balances. Motion made by Marilyn with a second by Joyce to approve
transactions as presented. MC
Old Business:
Comments re: the annual Congregational meeting. Overall council felt it went well. Goal is to schedule the January 2018 annual
meeting early to secure the date in January. Place as an council agenda item for October or November 2017.
Church Directory: Information was shared regarding a potential vendor for the book. Brenda Long has indicated she will coordi-
nate this project for the council and will forward prices and potential photo packages to Administrator Sandy to share with
council. Dates to be determined based on availability with most likely target dates for the fall. Brenda will contact the council
when she needs help with the project.
Joyce gave an update regarding summer VBS. Dates TBD but the time will remain from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The theme is centered on
camping.
Chairman Tom will connect with Terry re: the church bus and also with Admin Sandy re: potential Luther Crest scholarships.
No new business was addressed at the March meeting.
