Subject: Science
CC/GPSs: S6E3. Students will recognize the significant role of water in earth processes.
Long-Term How much of the earth is covered by water? What are the different types (bodies) of
Learning water on our Earth?
Goal or What are the different stages of the water cycle?
Outcome:
ABCD 1. Given a piece of paper and markers, the student will be able to accurately
Objectives or draw and explain the different types of water that make up the large portion
Outcomes: of the Earths surface with 100% accuracy.
2. Given a list of different scenarios, the student will be able to match the
scenario with the corresponding stage of the water cycle with 100%
accuracy.
3. Given a graph, the student should be able to label the percentages of fresh
water, ocean water, and other saline water on the earth with 100% accuracy.
4. Given a map, the student should be able to identify and distinguish different
types of bodies of water with 100% accuracy.
5. Given several descriptions of waves, tides, and currents, the student should
be able to match each description to either a wave, tide, or current with
100% accuracy.
Description of Assessment
Assessment Assessment Statements/ Test Questions
Plan:
1. What are the types of water that make up the earths large surface
water? List at least 3.
2. Rainfall can be described by which stage of the water cycle? Explain
what happens in this stage.
3. 2.5% of the earth is made up of ______ water. Whereas 0.9% is made
up of ______ water and 96.5% is made up of _____ water.
4. What is the difference between an ocean and a river?
5. Explain the difference between a wave, tide, and current.
To draw attention and get the students engaged I will have a Prezi pulled up at the
Class starter beginning of class that is very colorful and full of pictures that reads The wonders
and lesson of water
connection:
To build/connect on previous knowledge I will have a small review of last classs
lesson by using an interactive quiz on the board in the form of a Prezi. The Prezi
will include questions from the previous lesson and questions that we will answer
in the current lesson. The students will answer the questions together out loud.
After the interactive quiz, I will have a couple of slides introducing water and the
related topics for the lessons. This will be an interactive lecture where I ask
Teacher and students to engage in questions that pop up on the Prezi. Although it is
student interactive, there will be a couple of slides where I will just be talking/ explaining.
activities: After this, I will hand out the web quest and students will complete it
independently on the classroom computers.
As described above, I will provide direct instruction but only for a short period of
time as an introduction to the new lesson.
I will facilitate the lesson by making real world connections and varying the way of
instruction. For example, I will be using direct instruction, interactive activities, and
a web quest as an individual activity.
Students will work independently to avoid one or two people in the group doing all
the work.
Technology
Connection:
For children with exceptionalities, I will make sure to come over multiple times to
help them with any questions they have. Even if that means sitting there with
them and helping them through it.
Prezi, Internet, and school computers will be used in this lesson. The URLS used

Materials and
Resources:
I will most likely span the lesson planning over at least 2 days instead of doing it
all at once.
Design principles are incorporated in the way that important words/topics are
bigger and bolder than other information. There is also use of color which is an
eye catcher and engages students.
