There are 3 main types of
feeding relationships
1. Producer - Consumer
2. Predator - Prey
3. Parasite - Host
Producer- all
autotrophs; they trap
energy from the sun
and convert it to
chemical energy
(food).
Autotrophs are the
base of the food chain

Photosynthesis uses hydrogen from
water (H2O) molecules to convert the
CO2 to glucose, the oxygen waste
product left is what we breathe.
The energy is in the bonds of glucose
and GLUCOSE = FOOD.
Feeding Relationships
Consumer- all heterotrophs; they ingest
(take in) food by eating other organisms.
Consumers are:
Herbivores: Plant eater.
Carnivores: Heterotrophs that eat other
animals.
Omnivores: Heterotrophs that eat other
plants and animals.
Scavengers: Eat dead or decaying matter
Decomposers: Breaks down organic matter.

Primary consumers-
Carnivores eat meat. They are
Herbivores: Eat producers predators and hunt prey animals for
food.

Omnivores eats both plants and animals Scavengers are a type of carnivore
which may include eggs, insects, fungi that feed on carrion- dead animals
and algae.

an organisms within Food web- shows all possible
a food chain or a feeding relationships in a
food web.
