Course Description:

This Algebra 1-2 will cover the foundational concepts of algebra. The concepts
and skills learned in this course will be used in all future math classes
throughout the high school and college level. This course is designed to prepare
students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Students are
expected to complete assigned practice problems each day to achieve
proficiency in Algebra.

Office Hours: Tuesday/Thursdays 3:00-4:00 pm or by appointment

I will be available through email with a maximum 24-hour gap response time.
My office phone will be available during specified office hours. If contacting
about a bad test grade it must be 24 hours after the test has been given back.

Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

- Solve linear equations, inequalities, and absolute value equations

- Use mathematical models to represent linear functions.
- Simplify polynomial expressions
- Understand and apply basic concepts of probability.
- Organize and display data with a box and whisker or histogram

There will be extra credit opportunities on each exam. Two extra credit
questions, 2.5 points each totaling 5 points. Extra credit questions are optional.

Attendance:

Attending class gets you an automatic 5 points participation. If you are late and
it is unexcused, - 5 points participation. If a student is absent, participation
points cannot be made up. It is the students responsibility to catch up on
missing assignments and notes. I strongly encourage you getting notes from
your classmates. There will be a calendar posted in the class where it lists the
chapters we are going over for that week. This will list test dates, quizzes, and
reviews and due dates on assignments. If you are absent from class before a
test/quiz, you are not given an extension if unexcused. You are expected to take
the test/quiz as scheduled.

Class Etiquette:

1. Be on time and prepared

2. Be respectful and attentive.
3. Take comprehensive notes
4. Do assigned work
5. Turn assignments in on time
6. Always double-check your work

General Consequences:

1. Verbal warning
2. Loss of participation points
3. Contact home
4. Parent/Guardian conference
5. After school detention
6. Office referral

Late/Make-up Assignment Submissions:

Homework will be due at the beginning of each class. If you are late and it is
unexcused homework will be deducted 5%. Homework points will go down
10% each day late. Tests/Quizzes cannot be made up unless absence is
excused. If excused, Test/Quizzes must be made up on students personal time
(office hours).

Academic Dishonesty:

All individual work must be your own unless appropriately cited. Copying from
other students or resources will result in receiving a zero for anyone involved. If
