PLANNING
List the Common Core/State Standard(s) to be addressed in this lesson:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.2
Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the
text.

Communication and collaboration

a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers,
experts, or others employing a variety of digital
environments and media
b. Communicate information and ideas effectively
to multiple audiences using a variety of media
and formats
List the Learning Objective(s) to be addressed in this lesson. Use the following format:
Students will be able to

Students will be able to determine the theme and drama after reading a book.
Students will be able to summarize what they read.
Students will be able to create their own website to publish the changes that they read
though the book.
Students will be able to write and use images to publish pages on their websites.

Describe how the objective is relevant to students lives.

This is relevant to students lives because its important for them to be introduced to
new forms of technology. Being able to publish their own work and use their ideas
from the book that they are reading will help them expand their knowledge in
literature and technology.

List the words relevant to the content area that you will either introduce and/or review
during your lesson.

Theme
Drama
Collaborate
List the materials you will need to teach the lesson.

SMART board, Library book, iPad

ASSESSMENT
Pre-Assessment: Describe the instrument or process you will use to measure students level
of understanding toward the learning objective(s) prior to teaching the lesson.

APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of the lesson pre-assessment. (if applicable)

Is your pre-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

Describe the timeline as to when you plan to administer the pre-assessment?

(Recommended timeline is a minimum of two days prior to teaching your lesson).

Create and insert a table/chart/graph that shows the pre-assessment data results. (if
applicable)

Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.

Describe how the results of the pre-assessment (what the students have demonstrated they
know) will be used to design the lesson objectives, instruction, and post-assessment.
Post-Assessment: APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of the lesson post-assessment you will
use to measure students level of understanding toward the learning objectives after teaching
the lesson.

Is your post-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

APPENDIX: Include a copy of a Key/Product (completed by you, the teacher) which provides a
model of the desired outcome.

Is your key included at the end of this lesson plan?

TECHNOLOGY
Describe the instructional and/or assistive technology that you plan to incorporate into the
lesson to enhance instruction and student learning.

I will use the smartboard in my classroom to show the students what I expect
from them on their websites.
I will show them what Weebly is and how to start a website.
The students will use their iPads to download Weebly and then create a
website. Those who need help will have the option to get extra help from other
teachers.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Describe the accommodations/differentiation/modifications you will use to meet the needs
of all learners and accommodate differences in students learning, culture, language, etc. *
Be sure that these accommodations are based on what you identified/described in your
contextual information (Task I).

I will have prior knowledge to any IEPs for individuals that I might have in my
classroom. I will make sure that the information presented is large enough for all my
students to see and make sure my voice is clear enough for everyone to hear. For those
who need the text on their iPads larger, I will help them change that before letting
them work on their own.
MANAGEMENT
Identify the management and motivational strategies you will use to meet student
behavioral/developmental needs in order to keep students on task and actively engaged
throughout the lesson.

I will manage the class by being actively engaged with the students when they are
working independently. This will include walking around the classroom, redirecting
inappropriate behavior and answering any questions that students might have. If I
have to redirect the whole class I will go over the directions and my expectations from
them when they are working independently. I will also use call back ques to gain their
full attention.

LESSON IMPLEMENTATION
I Do
(Teacher introduces lesson and models expected outcome of learning objectives)
Describe how you will activate student interest and present the learning objective in an
engaging way (this is your lesson opening).
Students will be given the opportunity to choose a book from the 4 books that I
have selected for them. This will give them a chance to pick a topic that interest
them. The books that have been chosen are 4th grade reading level.
After they choose their book, I will go over the vocabulary terms that I have
provided in the vocab section. This will refresh their memory of what theme,
drama and collaborating is. They will have previous knowledge of this from
past lessons. I will do this by presenting a PowerPoint on the smartboard.
After presenting my PowerPoint I will gain the students attention by showing
the students other websites that have been made by teachers. This will
hopefully stimulate discussion on how interesting a website can be and how to
collaborate with other teachers and students.
I will show the class what my Weebly looks like and explain to them what the
book I read was about. Ill show them the cover of my book and read them a
small section, which includes extreme drama that has been chosen for this
lesson. By showing them how organized and informational my website is, it
should spike their interest on how to make their own websites appealing for
other students and teachers to look at.
I will use explicit teaching methods such as using visuals and modeling what I
expect from the students.
Before I let the students publish their sites, I will edit them and give them
advice on what they should improve.

Describe how you will communicate (to students) how the objective is relevant to their lives.
I will show my students examples and non-examples of other teachers and students
websites that have been based on literature. By showing the students the non-
examples, they should see the objective of having an organized and informational site.
With the examples, I will show them how media can be relevant on a website if it is
connected the right way with information.

Describe what instructional strategies you will use to model/explain/demonstrate the

knowledge and skills required of the objective. (cite theories/theorists)
I will provide demonstrations on the Smartboard and provide information about
drama and themes on a handout that will help the students successfully create a
website. I will also demonstrate what to look for in a book when looking for the theme.
I will give them questions that will help them find the information that will be
required on their websites.

Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on to guided
practice.
I will ask questions and let the students ask questions before letting them work
on their own.
I will make sure that I show them enough examples and non-examples before
letting them work on their own.
I will model what the students should be looking for and what they should be
doing.

We Do
(Teacher engages students in guided practice)
Describe the learning activities you will use to provide students multiple opportunities to
practice the skills and content needed to meet the learning objective(s).
Before letting the students create their accounts we will go over questions on a
worksheet together and I will answer any questions that they have. We will all
go over the terms that are required on their websites and I will engage all the
students by letting them share one of their favorite characters from their books.
Together we will go step by step on how to create a Weebly account. I will show
them how to create a page. Together we will go through the process of adding
text, titles and images to their page.
Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on to independent
practice.
I will look at each students Weebly account for the correct heading on each page. To
make sure that they understand the theme and drama going on in their book I will
have them answer a worksheet that I will correct before allowing them to start
anything on their website. I will ask and answer any questions that my students have.

You Do
(Students engage in independent practice)
Describe what the students will do to independently practice the knowledge and skills required
by the lesson objectives? (this is the post-assessment)
Students will read the book, on their own, that they have chosen and answer the
worksheet I have given them. They will look for the importance of the book, which
includes theme, characters, drama and setting. Students will need to write a summary
of what they read before they can start working on their website. The requirements for
this assignment will be in the rubric below. They will be responsible for creating their
own website (with the help from other teachers when needed) and having
informational text and pictures that relate to their books.
The students will add to this website after each book that they read throughout the
school year.

APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of your post-assessment.

Is your BLANK COPY of the post-assessment included at the end of this lesson plan?

Lesson Closing
Describe how you will reemphasize the lesson objective and any skills/content that were
taught in an interactive manner (whole/small group, etc.).
To reemphasize what was taught in this lesson, I will have the students log on to their
Padlet accounts on their iPads and have them pin on the class Padlet what a theme is
and what drama can do to a story. This is also another chance for them to ask any
questions privately that other kids might have as well. It will allow them to go out of
their comfort zone and get the last bit of knowledge they need before finishing their
websites.

ANALYZE
(This portion may only be done after the post assessment is collected/scored.)

Describe the results of the Post-Assessment and be sure to address the following:
Students progress from pre-to-post assessment. (if applicable)
Factors that may have influenced the post assessment results.
How the results of the post assessment highlight what areas of the lesson will require
re-teaching (if any).
If applicable, insert a table/chart/graph (below) that shows the post-assessment data results.
If you used the same document for both the pre and post assessments, it is strongly
encouraged that you show the comparison.

Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.
