A supply chain is defined as a network of organisations that are


involved, through upstream and downstream linkages in the different
processes and activities that produce value in the form of products and
services in the hand of the ultimate consumer. (Christopher, 1998)
Successful supply chains can significantly benefit the competitiveness of
the firms. Thus, the supply chain management (SCM) is a crucial problem
in the process industry. This thesis aims to address some key problems in
the process industry SCM by developing optimisation-based models,
approaches and solution procedures using mathematical programming
techniques

Statement of The Problem:

Most of the companies have complex in supply chains which impact the
cost of delivering supplies to patients, the timeliness of supplies, and the
environmental impact of supply delivery. An understanding of the full
impact of this complexity and the development of proposals for
improvement is sought.

Literature review

1) Despite the increasing interest in supply chain management (SCM) by


researchers and practitioners, there is still a lack of academic literature
concerning topics such as methodologies to guide and support SCM
evaluation. Most developed methodologies have been provided by consulting
companies and are restricted in their publication and use. This article presents
a methodology for evaluating companies degree of adherence to a SCM
conceptual model. The methodology is based on Cooper, Lambert and Paghs
original contribution and involves analysis of eleven referential axes
established from key business processes, horizontal structures, and initiatives
& practices. We analyze the applicability of the proposed model based on
findings from interviews with experts - academics and practitioners - as well
as from case studies of three focal firms and their supply chains. In general
terms, the methodology can be considered a diagnostic instrument that allows
companies to evaluate their maturity regarding SCM practices. From this
diagnosis, firms can identify and implement activities to improve degree of
adherence to the reference model and achieve SCM benefits. The
methodology aims to contribute to SCM theory development. It is an initial,
but structured, reference for translating a theoretical approach into practical
aspects.

2) Shilpa Parkhi (2015) Supply Chain Management is a methodology of


improving the business processes, making them more resilient, more
agile and as a result, more competitive. The main function of SCM is
to improve the product or service competitiveness (Machowiak, W.
(2012). This paper is an endeavour to study, understand and interpret
the evolution of supply chain management. On the basis of systematic
literature review, we have attempted to explore the future of Supply
Chain. We have captured various definitions of SCM provided by
experts from the initial to recent period along with major classical
definitions. Various dimensions of Supply chain are an integral part of
this study. The paper discusses SCM and its dimensions; and tries to
delineate SCM from related areas like Logistics Management, Value
Chain Management and Operations Management. The paper also
elaborates various theories of SCM. On completion of thorough
literature review, the paper ends with a conclusion and future scope of

3) Habib. M (2014) This keynote paper represents theory of Supply Chain
Management (SCM) and its future implications as well as
demonstrates chronological prospective of SCM in terms of time frame
in different areas of manufacturing and service industries. SCM has
been widely researched in numerous application domains during the
last decade. Despite the popularity of SCM research and applications,
considerable confusion remains as to its meaning. There are several
attempts made by researchers and practitioners to appropriately define
SCM. Amidst fierce competition in all industries, SCM has gradually
been embraced as a proven managerial approach to achieving
sustainable profits and growth. Finally, this study demonstrates
Educational Supply Chain Management, as the application of SCM in
the service industry, which would unlock other applications of SCM in
different arenas. Integrated Tertiary Educational Supply Chain
Management (ITESCM) model would be verified through Structural
Equation Modeling (SEM) Techniques that would describe in this
paper. The ITESCM model furnishes stakeholders of the supply chain
with appropriate strategies to review and appraise their performance
toward fulfillment of ultimate goals, i.e. producing high-caliber
graduates and high-impact research outcomes, which represent two
main contributions, for the betterment of the society.

4) Anthony Alexander (2014) Sustainable development has gained an


increasingly mainstream profile in recent years. Some 25 years after
the definition in Brundtland (1987), many businesses accept it as a
board-level concern (Haanaes et al., 2011). This prompts questions
about how sustainability should be put into practice. In other words,
how it should be incorporated into strategic and operational levels of
management decision-making. Internally to an organisation, this is
studied as sustainable operations management (Gimenez et al.,
2012), and externally to an organisation, the impacts associated with
the value chain and supply network are studied by sustainable supply
chain management (SSCM)

5) Suhong Lia, Bhanu Ragu-Nathanb, T.S. Ragu-Nathanb, S. Subba Raob(2006)


Effective supplychain management (SCM) has become a
potentiallyvaluable wayof securing competitive advantage and
improving organizational performance since competition is no longer
between organizations, but among supplychains. This research
conceptualizes and develops five dimensions of SCM practice
(strategic supplier partnership, customer relationship, level of
information sharing, qualityof information sharing, and postponement)
and tests the relationships between SCM practices, competitive
advantage, and organizational performance. Data for the studywere
collected from 196 organizations and the relationships proposed in the
framework were tested using structural equation modeling. The results
indicate that higher levels of SCM practice can lead to enhanced
competitive advantage and improved organizational performance.
Also, competitive advantage can have a direct, positive impact on
organizational performance.

To understand the supply chain management system of mechano
engineering company
The study also helps the management to obtain suggestion
regarding supply chain management system.

management system.

To identify which technologies might change dramatically in the


next ten years.

Methodology:

The main strength of the study depended on the study on the process of
collecting, synthesizing and analysing information, which had a bearing
on the defined problem. The method employed in the investigation
depends on the purpose and scope of enquiry.

Sampling:

The basic idea of sampling is that by selecting some of the sample from
the population, researcher may draw conclusions about the sample study
and generalize for entire population. A population element is the
individual participant or object on which the measurement is taken.
Population Size All the employees of Mechano Engineering Company

Sample Size:

Sample size is a part of target population, carefully selected to represent


the population. Here in this research study the Sampling size is 100.

Sampling Technique
After taken it to consider the limitations of this research study the
researcher has used the Non Probabilistic convenience sampling.

Data Collection:

In the preparation of this report, the researcher the data from different
sources. The sources of data as follows:

Primary data: This data is gathered from first-hand information sources


by the researcher, this data collection from employees, managers, clerks
etc., by administrating the questionnaire having face to face interaction
with employees.

Secondary data: This will give the theoretical basis required for the
report presentation which can be available from various sources such as
magazines, office files, inter office manual and web site.

Plan of Analysis

Data collected through questionnaire were tabulated and each


question was dealt
separately.
Graphs and Charts were made to make it easier to understand.
