KNP1091 WORKSHOP PRACTICE 2017/2018

GROUP PROJECT GUIDELINES


1. OBJECTIVE

Students are required to work in a group (combine 2 group) and produce a group

project based on the workshop practice skills learned and following the guidelines

from the course coordinator.

2. APPARATUS

1. Raw materials

2. Lathe machine, milling, cutting machine, welding and other hand tools

3. INSTRUCTIONS

1. Your group project will start from 27 Feb 2017 (10 weeks). Each group is

required to accomplish the manufacturing of the project within the given

dateline. Failure to do so will result in marks deduction.

2. Raw materials will be given to groups with specified quantity needed (based on

design requirement) and should get approval from the lecturers/technicians in

charge.

3. Each group is also required to produce a poster according to the guidelines. The

poster should be presented together with the final product. Write your group

number and group members name in the poster.

4. Every group member is STRICTLY to obey the safety rules of the workshop.

Every individual must wear safety shoes and other appropriate safety

equipments while operating any machine or tool. Group members who fail to do

so will get a penalty and the group will get marks deduction.

5. A presentation session of final product for each group will be conducted on week

12. The details of the time and venue will be announced later.

6. . Marks will be given on the fnal product, poster and commitment.

7. Marks will be based on the neatness, creativity, preciseness, finishing and safety

or your project. Therefore, make sure the project is done in detail and neatly.

Your group project poster SHOULD HAVE :

1) Project Description

i. Describe generally about your project

ii. State the general use and design of your project

iii. State the uniqueness of your project

2) Project Design Specifications

i. Performance (weight, added value, usage)

ii. Costing & lifespan

iii. Materials

iv. Market survey / target customer

3) Design process

i. Describe the process of designing your project from raw material to the end-

product

ii. Include the selection of material and the relevancy of the material to your

product

iii. Support your description with picture, drawing, design process etc

iv. Also include the assembly process, method of joining parts etc

4) End-product review

i. Exploded view of the product and also isometric views of the product with

dimensions.
