S4E2. Students will model the position and motion of the earth in the solar system and will explain the role
of relative position and motion in determining sequence of the phases of the moon.
b. Explain the sequence of the phases of the moon.

Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:
Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Description of how to implement in the class:

I would first introduce the phases of the moon to my class by asking them, how many phases of the
moon are there? Then, I would ask for volunteers to raise their hands to name out the phases. After, I would
start my lecture on on the different phases that the moon goes through and how to recognize them. In the
front of the classroom, I will have big paper cut-outs (for visibility) of the sun, the earth, and the 8 phases of
the moon. Using the big paper cut out, I would demonstrate how the earth and suns position affects the
moon. After my brief lesson, I will split the student up into groups of 3. Each group will be assigned a
phase of the moon and given the sun, and an earth cut-out. Each group is instructed to work together to
position the earth, the sun, and the moon correctly on a poster board. Each group will go up to the front of
the class and explain their phase of the moon with the correct position of the earth and sun to the class.
After the group activity, each student will go onto Kidspiration and create all 8 phases of the moon;
they will use arrows to connect the sun, the proper moon phase, and the earth. They will also add any notes
that they have on how to remember each phase. They will save it as a PDF, and upload into the classwork
turn-in folder for feedback. This lesson gives the students the opportunity to create their own templates, and
it also serves as a guide to check for understanding.

Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):

LoTi level 3 is implemented in this lesson because the students are receiving content and
instructional material from the teacher. Students focus on remember and understanding content, the
lowest levels of Blooms taxonomy.

Description of the sample BBPT file provided *:
When viewing the BBPT that I have created, you will see my example of the first phase of the moon
and the correct position of the earth and the sun. The instructions allow the student to identify the
appropriate location of the sun and the earth to get the proper moon phase.
