Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other website-
creation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that

create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The

grade students will identify health-related situations and analyze the importance of seeking assistance
before making a decision.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:
HE5.5.e: Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health. Choose a
healthy option when making a decision.
Students will keep a virtual food journal for seven days. After seven days of journaling the students will
write a summary about their food tracking experience including how easy/difficult it was for them to make
healthy choices and stay within the suggested daily limits. To complete this assignment students will first
have to access this assignments instructions via my classroom blog. To complete this assignment students
will use the internet to create a profile on a government run nutritional site.

I will introduce this project on my classroom blog under homework assignments. I will also reference the
project in class and answer any questions my students may have. After the students have completed this
assignment, I will go through their journals and check each students my plate accounts in order to check
and award them a grade.

LoTi 4, the lesson is student centered, focuses on applying learning to real world through food tracking
therefore making the content authentic and relevant to the students.

Importance of technology:
Using a web creating tool for this project is paramount because it gives students the basis of information
they need in order to complete their journal entries and overall reflection. This project is designed in such a
way that it could not be completed without the use of technology. Tweaking this assignment to be done
without technology would take students much longer to complete their entries. Students would have to

look at physical resources in order find out the daily recommended values for the food items they chose to
eat. As well as internet being used as a tool, students will need to use basic productivity tools such as
Word.

Students may need a guardian to sign off electronically on a waiver on the My Plate website. I will include
in my instructions for this assignment that students should have their guardian assist them during the
account set up process. My classroom blog is a secure site but I will have students submit their assignment
with a number I have assigned them instead of them including their name. I will do this in order to
maintain student online safety and privacy.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. What are you trying that you have not tried
before? What do you hope to learn from this activity? How do you hope it will help students learn?
I hope it will help students learn real life skills such as analyzing their food choices in order to
increase their health. I will try this assignment in order to try a more open and student paced
teaching approach vs having set answers and leading a more teacher paced assignment.
