Brief description/type:
Building an interactive bulletin board that the children will be able to count by placing eggs in the coronated birds nests.

WHY-Rationale:
Young children begin learning math concepts informally at home and in the world around them. The development of mathematical
thinking entails a long process that consists of far more than learning how to count and calculate. Math concepts evolve as
children mature and have many real-experiences. In other words, math concepts are constructed.
Objective(s): By participating in this opportunity, the children will

HOW to Prepare: What you need:
MATERIALS:
Pictures of a nests
Cut out Ducks
Permanent Marker
TIME: 2-5 minutes
SETTING: Free Choice
SET UP/SPACE: Table Top Activity

HOW to Teach:
Introduction:
Read a book about birds. Ask them if they know where birds live. Say that I made an activity that has numbers and ducks on
the nests for Free Choice. Ask them if they can match the number to the number of dots on the nests.
Teaching steps:
1. Ask each child if they would want to match numbers
2. Place the nests on the table in order
3. Give the child enough time to match the number to the nests
Closure & Transition:
Ask if the child enjoyed the matching the nests. Ask if we can match the birds in their nests. Then ask if they enjoyed and
what did you like about this activity.

Assessment Documentation:
Each child try the activity on the table. One to two children matched the dots to the numbers very well without me helping
them at all.

What evidence of childrens engagement and learning did you see during this learning opportunity? How were the

They got interested when the first child would come up and try it. They would also say they didnt want to finish it because they
got bored with too.
What did you learn from planning and presenting this learning opportunity?
a) About the learning opportunity itself:
- That I couldnt make a bulletin board first so I made it into a table top activity

- Some of the children were interested and engaged in the activity for a while
c) About your own abilities:
- I think I did a good way to present this activity by adapting it in the moment
