Introduction

The Sunstar GUM is an ultra-bright LED lit dental mirror. It is distinguished by its sleek rubber
gripped handle and its vibrant LED lit mirror. It operates on a single AAA battery and has a
single push button to power on or off.

It has two main parts as shown in figure 1:

Handle
The handle is 4 long and is molded from smooth white plastic. A green soft plastic grip is
attached with industrial adhesive.

On/Off Button
The power is activated by a simple push button covered in soft green grip plastic.

Mirror Holder
The mirror holder is 2 long and is made from clear plastic. It has a hollow core that allows the
LED bulb to shine through the holder and reflect off the mirror. It is glued to the tip of the
handle.

Mirror
The mirror is 1 in diameter and is secured to the holder with an adhesive pad.

Internal Parts
Spring Retention Ring

Cap
The cap is bullet shaped, plastic, and is 1 long. It has molded spiral
groves that allow it to be screwed securely to the base of the handle. It
houses the battery spring and spring holder.

The when the cap is secured, the battery spring applies pressure on the
battery ensuring contact with the conduit metal inside the handle.

Spring Retention Ring
The spring retention ring is a plastic ring in diameter. It is secured
with adhesive and holds the spring inside the cap.

Internal Handle Parts

The inside of the handle is stamped with a battery icon indicating which
direction to insert the battery. The internal handle parts consist of the
battery compartment, the conduit housing containing the contact wire,
and contact plates. The tip of the handle houses the LED bulb and the
clear mirror holder.

The battery compartment is a 2x 3/8 plastic tube that houses the
contact wire, and second battery spring that is secured into a pre-molded
cutout.

Contact wire
The contact wire is 8 long and runs along the inside of the battery
compartment all the way to the LED contact points. The circuit is
completed when the push button presses two copper contact plates down
on the wire.

Plates Compartment

Copper Contact Plates

The contact plates are located directly underneath the on/off button. When the button is pushed
into the on position the contact plates are pushed on to the contact wire completing the circuit.
LED contact wire
The contact wire is made of conductive metal and is attached to the LED bulb. The contact wire
that runs along the inside of the handle connects to the LED contact wire.
LED bulb
The LED bulb is 1/8 wide. It is glued to the tip of the handle and shines through the clear
mirror holder.
