Spanish 1 Lesson Plan Date:

Ms. Leach
Objective: 1C1 SWBAT recognize useful classroom objects
1I1 SWBAT identify the origins of the Spanish language and define culture
SWBAT Build their own textbook in order to identify organizational skills

Opening: How will you communicate what, how, why is about to happen? Hook?
TW stand at door & ensure that students follow the 5 steps for entering class correctly

TW narrate the positive things she sees. Students who do not enter correctly will be
asked to re-enter

SW enter following entering procedure

TW move students forward on the Viaje al exito (class-wide behavior tracker) if

procedure is done perfectly

CFU: Bathroom passes, 4 expectations, importance of staying in seat

PROCEDURE: SLANT (sit up, listen, ask, nod, track)

Who has ever sat in class staring at the teacher but not listening? We
spend time learning to SLANT because that is what we don’t want to
happen. Listening is thinking AND we think and learn ALL of the time in
our class room.

CFU: How do we sit in our seats in our classroom? Why? Practice – teacher moves
around the room – students SLANT. Volunteer. Was it perfect?

“Today is a really important day because we are going to start to build

our own textbook. How many people like learning from a textbook? The
reason many people dislike it is because it is tons of information often
not presented in an interesting way or in a way that we understand the
material. Everyone learns differently so we are going to create our OWN
textbooks using our own guided notes we take & they will be filled with
tons of different practice activities so that we use all learning styles. I
guarantee you – if you bring yours everyday, take the notes & keep it
organized – you will pass my class & I would bet that you pass it with an
80% or higher – this is an incredibly important skill to help you in all your
classes. Students take notes on the following benefits:
1. makes warm-ups easy to complete in 10 min – answers are almost always in
previous notes
2. makes easy to organize homework – 20% - impossible to get above a C if you do
no homework
3. makes easy to study – all information in order for tests
4. makes easy to keep professional pts – lose 1 pt every day you come in w/o your
binder/textbook

-1-
TW hand out pieces white paper to each row & give pesos to row that passes them
to the end the fastest
TW direct students to label “Spanish 1 Textbook – 2010-11 – por “name” –
Modeling on board

Now it is time for you to make this textbook your own – 1. Put all the
notes we have taken so far in order in the binder 2. Decorate the cover
with magazine cut-outs, crayons, markers, etc – You have exactly 20 min
so use it wisely – RULES 1. Stay in your seat 2. Any talkinq should be at a
whisper *If you need supplies raise your hand & ask me for it, the teams
that are working on take will get points – opportunity for success!

(10)INM: Which potential misunderstandings do you anticipate? CFUs? Behavioral expectations?

TW show powerpt on origins of the Spanish language while students take notes

Guided Practice:
SW think-pair-share on questions about what they’ve just learned
1. Were you surprised to learn that there is a Spanish-speaking country in Africa
2. What did you already know? 3. What is the most interesting fact you learned? 4. If you could travel to any Spanish-
speaking country which would it be?

(10)Independet Practice:
Fill in map – color in Sp-speaking countries using a list & notes
Answer questions – which continents have Spanish-speaking countries on them?
How many? Where are most Sp-speaking countries? etc

Closing:
Pick up garbage
“Begin!” – exit slip silently
Pass exit slips forward quietly

CFU: What 2 things MUST you bring to class next time? 1. Binder WITH hw
completed 2. Pencil
What happens if you don’t bring binder (lose prof pt) What happens if don’t bring
pencil? (lose prof pt) What happens if you don’t bring hw? (lose 5 pts)
