Harry Potter- fantasy:

The target audience for Harry Potter seems to be much verified because
in this scenes there isnt a clear specific age applicable to it at the
beginning of the first scene. The genre at the beginning seems to be
fantasy as professor Dumbledore catches the light from the street lamp
and the witch, and a cat turns into a witch; professor mogonagul. This
therefore doesnt seem to be a film about realistic subjects, nor does it
seem to be a horror or a love story, so to me it must be a fantasy. First of
all, the sound when the character Dumbledore walks through the woods
seems to be dark which could represent to us that this character is quite a
dark character, however there is then a sense of magical sounds when he
lights up the street lamps which enables me to feel like its going to be a
mysterious and fantasised film.

The sound is parallel to the genre because most of the sounds seem to be
very fantasised and magical. Also they have used long shots for
Dumbledore walking which may indicate he is a character to watch out on
in a magical sense. Close up shot of the cat and the professor which may
state she is a main character and her actions could lead into the fantasy.
Finally there are two shot of both characters which connotes that there
could be a sense of joining throughout the film and its something I would
want to carry on watching and see it developing as my first initial
thoughts of the characters seem to change through the beginning so
therefore I want to see them develop.

The Notebook- Romance

In this opening scene the target audience stereotypically seems for
teenagers and girls as the film concept is about a love story; whuch is
what most girls seem to like. The music is very soft with shots of the area
and house with character in it to set the calm cool tone of this love film. It
also consists of still shots of the character, house and area; name of actor
and title. Then there is a form cut used to flow the boat and man rowing
which enables the audience to move along with the story. The sound is
non-diagetic and parallel therefore we dont know where the music is
coming from so it can set the mood and tone of this love film. The mise on
scene consists of the house, birds and trees. The scene runs smooth and
jumps to the next scene whilst lasting long. A nurse then comes in near
the end of the two minutes and starts talking. Then it goes to the boat
scene with the man and the music ends. This is all relevant to the opening
because it gives an insight of what is going to happen during the film and
it makes you want to carry on watching more.

Dark Knight- Action

The audience is seemed to be for more teenagers/adults because of the
content within the opening scene and the atmosphere it brings off.
Included- At the beginning there is an overview of a city. Then suddenly
there is a smash of a window with a person with a mask on holding a gun.
Then they take out the wire and shoot a wire to another building. Then
after this they cut to a scene where it includes and introduces one of the
main characters holding a bag and a mask. We can guess here its one of
the main characters because batman isnt in it at the moment and it
contrasts from the other characters in masks; with a villain type setting.
Then, 2 characters slide down the wire from the building. Then they cut to
a scene where 3 characters are in a car with masks on, and picks up the
character that we think is one of the main ones. Then they go into a bank
and start breaking into it and throws accountants over the counters. After
this they cut to the other two characters on top of the building and hack
the back system and then one character shoots the other. Then just as the
two minutes are up a character puts a grenade into a victims hand.

Camera work- first of all there is an establishing shot of the building at the
start and you can see the reflection of other building on that building.
There is a long range of the smashed window. And there is also a close up
and a long range shot of the wire. And medium shot of the main
character. Also there is a 3 shot in the car. There is a bank, building,
workers, the city, cars, guns and grenades to set the scene for the
audience to engage with whats going on.

Social Network
The audience seems to be aged ranged from ages about 14-30. This is
because both characters talk about university and this is what they would
either be doing or looking into. It appeals to them because the genre is
more of a bio-drama so therefore it provides the audience of how to make
their way in life by going to university; as we know the main character is
the owner of Facebook before this film. The sound is diagetic of the two
characters talking. And then there was non- diagetic of the music in the
background.

I found this opening quite hard to understand and evaluate because there
wasnt much reveal about what was going on during this section neither
was there much relevant speech apart from when talking about university
and facebook.

Touch of evil
The age range is from ages 20-40 due to the content because back when
this was filmed younger people wouldnt have been able to watch it. This
is because the first thing thats included is they active the back and put it
under the car. A couple drive of around the town in that same car. There
are people walking around the town. Here they use extreme close ups of
the bomb to reveal to the audience that something bad is going to
happen and the bomb is relevant to this. They also use a wide camera
shot when they drive around the town and a single camera roll
throughout. This is because back then they wouldnt have undertood all of
the different camera shots that we know today yet it was really effective
and it flowed quite nicely. The sound is non-diagetic and is parallel to the
scene to give that tension and sense that something bad is going to
happen.
Goodfellas
The audience seems to be from 18-40 because its a crime genre and
content and back then in 1990 younger people wouldnt be able to watch
it. Included- there are 3 men in the car and one of the main characters is
driving the car, they then pull over to the side of the road and open the
boot. They then stab and shoot the person in the boot because he is still
alive. After this they zoom in on the main characters face as he says a
small monologue then it freeze frames. The use of camera work is 3 shot
of the men in the car. And the wide shots of the car. Then there is a freeze
frame at the end of the main character. The sound is non-diagetic as he
talks but his mouth isnt moving so its overlapped.

World war Z
The audience would be about 15- 40 because it talks about serious news
stories at the start. Included- blurred out beach, city birds people and
trees. This reveals what destruction has taken place here! It also
consists of the actors names, Tv shows and information on America to
give that flickering scary feel which I felt worked quite well. The camera
work is extreme close ups and blurred filters throughout because they are
giving that tense and creepy feel towards it to make the audience aware
or maybe unaware of whats about to happen. The sounds of the radio and
news stories are non-diagetic. And the talk shows are diagetic. There is an
intense build-up of the music in the background with photos of polluted
water. This worked extremely well because it gave the sense of the
unknoiwn and the use of the mise en scene along with the sound married
up cleverly to give that eery and indication that this is about to be a
horror film,

The purge anarchy

The audience would be around 15-40. There are facts on the screen about
American purge and then the title comes on, this straight away tells us
that its a horror from the opening title purge which means a legal
killing spree. Then it cuts to a restaurant and shows the normal day-to-
day life. This contrasts the horror but works really well to see what the
storyline is and how it gets to the point of the spree.

Then a news story comes up on the TV. First of all there is extreme close
ups of the American dollars. Then theres an over the shoulder shot of the
man and waitress talking to another. You have the 3 shot of the man and
two waitresses talking again. Then the two shot of the same concept. The
use of these camera angles are really effective because it brings the
audience into the scene and we can understand what is happening here.
The sound at the beginning is diagetic of them talking but with the
universal logo its contrapuntal as it is peaceful instead of intense.
Poltergeist
The audience seems to be age ranged from about 14-40 as the content at
the start is quite violent. Yet this would also appeal to this age range
because teenagers are more likely to enjoy a film like this and a more
mature audience that understand it would too. Included- first of all there
is a boy playing a videogame on a tablet. Then the family are driving in
the car so here the scene seems innocent and not really in the horror
genre. Also we are introduced to the main characters here. During this
there are extreme close ups on the tablet game and a close up of the boy
playing on the tablet. There is also the use of the 180 degree rule and a
shot reverse shot of the brother and sister. The sound is diegetic of the
video game and we can see where the dialogue is coming from with the
characters. There was editing on the game with the pixels but each shot
flowed perfectly into the start of this movie.

Dark Skies
The audience is aged from 15+ because the content doesnt have an appeal to a younger
audience. Included- there are people driving a car. Then you have people doing everyday
with children playing. There is no character introduction here. There is the name of the film
titled and not much else. Here there isnt a lot included to represent the genre horror because
its quite simple and seems more action. Camera work- there is a tracking shot of a woman
and girls ion a wagon. There is a close up on the sale sign. Also, there is a high angle wide
shot and a medium shot on roads, leaf blower and the car. Mise en scene- non diagetic music.
But there is diegetic sounds to the activities taking place. Editing- Animations for the
production. There is a use of slow motion of a person jumping into the water.
Hush
The audience like any other horror would be from teens to adults. However in the two
minutes of this film it seems calm yet fast paced so the audience isnt specified here clearly
enough. Included- it starts of as a follow through the woods, then we here bird noises and we
see a house in the middle of the woods; which seems stereotypical to being a horror already.
Then we are introduced to a main character with her just chopping up food and cooking but
its faced paced. Therefore this builds up the tension of a horror. Here they use close ups of
the woman cooking. Also long shots of the house in the middle of the woods and a tracking
front view of the woods. The sound of the birds is diagetic because we know where its
coming from. Similar to the sound of the woman chopping up the food fastly. The use of these
in the first two minutes provides audiences with tension a build up to the horror
