RHB New Straits Times National Spell-It-Right Challenge 2013

Terms and Conditions

1. This challenge is open to Malaysian citzens from Year 1 Year 6 (Category 1 Primary
Level) and Form 1 Form 5 (Category 2 Secondary Level) who are enrolled in natonal,
natonaltype and private schools using the Malaysian natonal educaton system.

2. Partcipaton is open to individuals and schools. Any one (1) school may only have a
maximum of twenty (20) partcipants which shall include individual partcipants, if any.
Registraton of partcipants is on a first-come, first-served basis.

3. Each partcipant is only allowed to partcipate in the state that he/she is schooling in.

4. Only four hundred (400) partcipants from each state will be accepted to sit for the
Preliminary Writen Spelling Test. The top 100 will be identfied by the organiser for the
State Challenge.

5. Each partcipant must fully complete the original entry form published in the New Straits
Times. Incomplete and illegible forms will not be entertained. Photocopied forms will
not be accepted.

6. Each partcipant must be accompanied by an adult (18 years and above) who is required
to stay with the partcipant untl the end of the challenge duraton.

7. In the event that the Nominated person in Clause 6 above is unable to atend the
Writen Spelling Test, he/she is required to find a replacement to accompany the
partcipant(s) on the event date. The nominated person shall issue an authorisaton
leter to his/her replacement. The organisers shall have the right to disqualify the
partcipants from the challenge should his/her replacement fail to produce the
authorisaton leter.

8. In reference to Clause 6 and 7 above. The nominated person shall be fully responsible
for his/her replacements actons. The organisers shall not be responsible and shall be
indemnified and be held harmless against all actons, suits, claims, liabilites, losses,
expenses and/or damages with respect to any claims arising out of any death, or
personal injury, loss or damage.

9. By submitng the entry form, it is deemed that the partcipants parents and/or
guardians have given their consent to the partcipant to take part in the challenge and
empowered the accompanying person to make any decisions necessary on behalf of the
partcipant.
10. The entry form must be faxed to SIR Registraton Secretariat, The New Straits Times
Press (M) Bhd at 03-2056 7178 no later than May 3, 2013. Entries will not be accepted
after the deadline.

11. Proof of fax delivery is not proof of receipt of entry forms. All partcipants must register
in advance. No walk-ins allowed.

12. The organisers reserve the right to reject any entry without giving any reasons
whatsoever.

13. On the day of the challenge, the partcipants accompanying person MUST bring along
the partcipants original entry form, confirmaton leter from the New Straits Times, and
certfied true copy of the partcipants Identty Card and/or Birth Certficate.

14. All partcipants must be in full school uniform for State and Natonal Challenges.

15. No aids will be allowed in the hall, on stage or on partcipants. For example, no pens,
paper, MP3 players or mobile phones will be allowed on stage. A breach of this rule will
be grounds for disqualificaton.

16. No discussion or promptng will be allowed between partcipants or from anyone in the
hall or on stage. A breach of this rule will be grounds for disqualificaton.

17. No promptng by the audience (in any form). If there are violatons, the word will be
withdrawn and a new word given.

18. The tme allocated to spell a word is twenty (20) seconds. For both state and natonal
challenges, the partcipant will be disqualified if a partcipant fails to complete spelling
the word in the given tmeframe.

19. In the case of a dispute (for example, mispronunciaton, uncertainty of word use, tme
or distractons) the decision will be final after consultaton with the Members of the
Organising Panel at each venue. Should there be a dispute on the words before the final
announcement and close of a challenge, the organisers are well within their rights to
recall final partcipants for a re-match to ascertain the true winner/champion. The
Presenter will have absolute discreton over the conduct of proceedings. No appeals and
objectons for any reason whatsoever will be entertained.

21. Accommodaton will be provided for partcipants and accompanying person from
Peninsular States atending the Natonal Challenge in Kuala Lumpur. Partcipants from
Sabah and Sarawak will be provided accommodaton and transportaton.

22. All finalists MUST use the centralised accommodaton and transportaton provided by
the organisers.

23. The organisers may at their discreton refuse any entry and cancel or postpone the event
without due notce in the event of unforeseen circumstances. No claims of any kind arising
from the abandonment, cancellaton and/or postponement of the event shall be
entertained.

24. The organisers and/or its sponsors including but not limited to NSTP will not be held
responsible for any mishap, injury, damage and/or loss sufered by any partcipant
and/or to the persons accompanying the partcipant. Every partcipant and/or
parents/guardians/ accompanying persons agrees to indemnify and hold harmless NSTP
against all actons, suits, claims, liabilites, losses, expenses and/or damages with respect
to any claims arising out of any death, or personal injury, loss or damage to property or
goods under this Agreement arising out of the wilful misconduct or negligence of the
partcipants or any breach or non-observance by the partcipants of any of its
obligatons under this Agreement.

25. You are not able to limit the processing of your personal informaton for the challenge.
If you do not consent to the organisers including but not limited to NSTP, its agents,
employees, and/or contractors processing your personal informaton for the challenge,
then you must not compete in the RHB New Straits Times Natonal Spell-It-Right
Challenge.

26. The organisers including but not limited to NSTP reserves the right to publish and
display the winners names, addresses and NRIC/Birth Cert No., their photographs and
audio and/or visual recording for advertsing and publicity purposes without
compensaton and prior notficaton to the winners.

27. The organisers including but not limited to NSTP shall reserve the right at its absolute
discreton to substtute any of the prizes with that of similar value at any tme without
prior notce. All prizes are non-transferable.

28. The organisers including but not limited to NSTP reserve the right at any tme without
assigning any reasons to add, alter, modify, change or vary the challenge procedures
and terms and conditons, wholly or in part, at its absolute discreton.

29. By partcipatng in this challenge, partcipants, parents/guardians and accompanying


persons are deemed to have read, understood and agreed to be bound by the Challenge
Procedures and Terms and Conditons and decisions made by NSTP, its parent company,
its Subsidiaries, its employees and/or its agents.

30. If there is any doubt of the interpretaton of the terms and conditons, the decision of
the challenge commitee shall be final and conclusive.
