(CORE)

Course Description:

The goal of physical education is to increase the students physical activity levels and to teach
them various exercises, team sport skills and individual sport skills that they can utilize
throughout their life. This will be done through various units. Each unit will begin with teaching
the students the fundamental skills and rules of that particular activity. Then the students will
practice these skills and follow the set rules of the activity, building on them each day of the unit.
At the end of the unit the students will be able to confidently and successfully engage in the
activity. Lastly, students will be given a quiz at the end of each unit, focusing on the rules and
various skills needed for the activity.

Students will be given 10 minutes to dress after the tardy bell and are to be in their assigned spot
in the gymnasium by the end of those 10 minutes or they will be considered late. A warm up
activity will begin the class, followed by the class activity. The last 10 minutes of class will be
used for cool down, turning in all equipment, and changing of clothes.

Goals for Students:

Students will learn teamwork and good sportsmanship as they engage and learn about various
sports and physical activities. They will also learn how to safely and correctly engage in these
various activities, as safety is always a primary concern. Students will also learn the rules and
particular skills that are needed for each activity. Lastly, the students will understand that in order
to accomplish these goals they must actively participate and engage in each class.

Students will learn many sport skills, individual sport skills and exercises that they can continue
to utilize throughout their life, which will have lasting health benefits.

GRADING POLICY:

Attendance is extremely important to an activity classbeing absent equals no points!


If students miss class because of an excused absence they must bring in a blue slip to sign.

Students will be graded on punctuality, participation, dressing out and on end of unit quizzes.
*10 total points daily:

Participation: 6 pts
Dressing Out: 4pts

Quizzes: 10 pts each (one quiz at the end of each unit)

*Tardy students will lose 1 point each day they are late to class.

DRESS:

Appropriate t-shirt and/or sweatshirt. Must have sleeves. No tank tops. Cut offs allowed
upon approval of instructor.
Appropriate athletic shorts and/or sweatpants (warm ups).
Appropriate sport shoes for indoor and outdoor activities No boots, sandals or slippers.

GENERAL RULES:

Arrive on time and ready to participate


Be respectful to the teacher and your classmates
Zero Tolerance for horseplay in the gymnasium or while outside
Personal electronic devices are not allowed in this class. The only exception will be
school issued iPads upon direction of instructor.
Students are to remain in the designated PE area(s), and are not allowed to participate in
the concurrent PE classes.
