Rationale

The Positive Behavior Support Plan required me to demonstrate competency in the ability
to assess student behavior and determine its impact on school success. I had to design,
implement and evaluate supports that positively affect student behavior. This assignment
specifically aligned with CEC standards 1 (Learner Development and Individual Learning
Differences) and 2 (Learning Environments).

I demonstrated knowledge of learner development and individual learning

differences (CEC Standard 1) while completing Part 1 (Definition of Specific Behavior),
Part 4 (Hypothesis of Functional Intention) and Part 5 (Replacement Behavior). Within Part
1 I had to describe what the students behavior looked like, when it occurred, how long it
occurred for and how disruptive or dangerous the problem behavior was. In Part 4 I had to use
the data collected to decide what the function of the behavior is for the student and state whether
the function is for attention or avoidance (or both). Then, in Part 5, I had to state one appropriate
replacement behavior that satisfies the function of the inappropriate behavior. I had to address
what the student should be doing, how the replacement behavior will be taught and when the
behavior will be taught.

This assignment also assisted me in demonstrating knowledge of the learning

environment (CEC standard 2). This knowledge was demonstrated in Part 6 (Positive
Behavior Supports) and Part 8 (Data Summary and Interpretation) of the PBSP. In Part 6 I had to
describe three positive supports to ensure the student will choose to emit the replacement
behavior. These positive supports needed to be written in positive terms. Lastly, I had to
summarize my analysis and interpret the 13 days of data I collected. My summary had to address
how the implementation of this plan had an effect on outcomes.

The student I worked with for the PBSP was positively impacted by the implementation.
This student engaged in the target behavior less frequently by the end of the implementation
period. This behavior plan will continue to be in place throughout the school year in order to
encourage the student to engage in the replacement behavior instead of the target behavior. The
hope is that this behavior plan will continue on with her to later school years, but will be adjusted
as needed. This student will greatly benefit from the consistence of this plan and will hopefully
continue to show progress when held accountable in the classroom.
