In this lesson the student will be learning about a battle of their choice from the Civil War. The student will make a blog
post on Facebook about the battle they chose. `

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this lesson is to learn about a battle of the Civil War and end with a blog post and online quiz about what
you learned about that battle.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
8.80 Trace the critical developments and events in the war, including geographical advantages and economic advantages
of both sides, technological advances and the location and significance of the following battles: Anaconda Plan First

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
The concept of this lesson is to gain knowledge about the Civil War.

We will build on this lesson by learning about other areas of the Civil War.

There are different activities to ensure that the students have learned all the things they need to learn in this lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction: I will tell students the lesson objectives and materials needed. (5 minutes)
Procedures:
1. First the students will get the materials needed to complete this lesson. The student will need a
computer or mobile device. The student may also need a piece of paper to take notes on. The student
will make a Facebook account if they do not already have one. (5 minutes) You can find information at
http://www.historynet.com/civil-war
2. The student will choose a battle from the Civil War. The students will then do research on the battle
they choose. The student may want to take notes of some of their research. (35 minutes)
3. The student will then log on to their Facebook account and make a post about the battle they chose.
The post will answer the following questions. When and where the battle took place. Who won the
battle? How many casualties resulted from the battle? Why the student chose that battle. And how was
the battle important to the war overall.? (35 minutes)
Closure: The student will end the lesson by taking a quiz at
https://www.polleverywhere.com/surveys/5xwjKyhCr . ( 10 minutes)

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:

A handout will be given to the students before completing this assignment to assess their knowledge of the topic
of the lesson.
MODIFICATIONS:

Shorter blog post if the students are running low on time.

If a student is struggling with the lesson they may be paired with a partner to help them better
understand.
