1 Battery Usage
Battery Operation

About the Battery

The battery provides power to the detector. It must be installed in the detector even
when the detector is in tethered mode.
The minimum battery life is 500 charge and discharge cycles, where the cell capacity
remains above 80 % of the initial capacity.
The expected life is 1.5 years, assuming 1 charge per day.
Batteries are shipped at 30 % to 50 % state of charge and must be charged before
use.
A fully charged battery should provide enough power to capture 190 images (3 hours
of heavy use).
The Console displays the remaining charge using a four-bar icon. The detector
determines if the installed battery is not properly charging, and provides this battery
status to the Console.
When the battery is low, replace it with a freshly charged battery and recharge
according to the instructions in the CARESTREAM System Battery Charger User Guide.
You can purchase additional batteries separately. The battery is keyed for proper
orientation in the detector.

Important
When a battery in the charger is fully charged, a green light will glow on the charger to indicate
that the battery is ready for use.

Battery Usage

Insert the Battery

You must insert the battery into the detector for detector operation.
1. Place a fully charged battery in the battery footprint in the detector so that the
contacts on the back edge of the battery are inserted first. The battery fits into the
detector only one way.
2. Push the battery down firmly until the latch catches.

equipment should be used no closer to any
part of the System, including cables, than
the recommended separation distance cal-
culated from the equation applicable to
the frequency of the transmitter.

the transmitter manufacturer and d is rec-
ommended separation distance in meters

Field strengths from fixed RF transmitters,
as determined by an electromagnetic site
surveya, should be less than the compli-
ance level in each frequency rangeb.
Interference may occur in the vicinity of
equipment marked with the following
symbol:

NOTE 1: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies.
NOTE 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is
affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects, and people.

a. Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base station for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile
radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast, and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with
accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey
should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the system is used exceeds the
applicable RF compliance level above, the system should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal
performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as reorienting or relocating the system.
b. Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 v/m.

Recommended Separation Distance Between Portable and Mobile RF

Communications Equipment and the CARESTREAM DRX-1 System

The battery is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF

disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the battery can help prevent
electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and
mobile RF communication equipment (transmitters) and the battery as recommended
below, according to the maximum output of the communications equipment.
Rated Maximum Output
Power of Transmitter (P) Separation Distance (d) According to Frequency of Transmitter

1.0 1.17 1.17 2.33

10 3.7 3.0 7.36

100 11.7 11.7 23.3

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended sepa-
ration distance (d) in meters (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the fre-
quency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in
watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer.
NOTE 1: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range
applies.
NOTE 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is
affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects, and people.
