LESSONSUMMARY/OVERVIEW

Thislessonplanwilladdressthevariousfossilfuelsalreadycoveredwithinthebeginningoftheunit.This
lessonisanoverviewofalltheinformationcovered:coal,oil,andnaturalgas.Ineffortsofallowingthe
studentstotrulyunderstandwhatgoesintoextraction,studentswillparticipateintheirownextraction.This
lessonwillallowstudentstoseethedamagethatiscausedfirsthand,thusallowingthemtoformtheirown
opiniononthebenefitsofextractionandorthecons.Thislessonaddressessustainabilitybyshowingstudents
thateventuallytheywillallrunoutofresourceseventually,andcausemoreandmoredamagetothe
land/cookieastheycontinueextractingthusalsogivingthestudentsanunderstandingofhowtheyare
derived,buthowtheyaffecttheenvironmentasawhole,andhowtheymustbesustained.

3.Teacherwilltellstudentstocompletetheobservationbeforegoingontodocumenthowmanyofeach
resourcewasrecovered.
4.Teacherwillwalkaroundclassroomandansweranyclarifyingquestions.
5.Onceallstudentsarecompletedwiththehandsonportionofthelab,teacherwillmodelhowtocomplete
theresourcesrecoveredsegment.
