Compare Properties of Two Functions

Name (CIS 223 Asma Shedewa)

Grade(s) 8th Grade
Subject(s) Mathematics
Length of Lesson 20 minutes long
Lesson Overview/Rationale In this lesson plan, students will be learning
how to compare properties of two functions
each represented in a different way. Students
will be using the software, Inspiration, to their
understanding of how to compare properties.
The class will be using Inspiration for this
part of the curriculum. " These software
applications promote meaningful student
learning in several ways:
Address students multiple learning
styles
Promote creativity
Allow for brainstorming
Helps students organize and analyze
information."

Functions
Define, evaluate, and compare functions.

Compare properties of two functions

each represented in a different way
(algebraically, graphically,
numerically in tables, or by verbal
descriptions). For example, given a
linear function represented by a table
of values and a linear function
represented by an algebraic
expression, determine which function
has the greater rate of change.

Learning Objectives Students will focus on comparing

properties of functions.
Students will learn about the software
Inspiration and how to create maps on
it.
Students will learn how individually
to accomplish their goal.
Students will present to their peers the
maps they have created on Inspiration.
Students will write about what they
have learned about different properties
of functions and what method works
well for them.

Technology Uses Students will be using the computers for:

Creating a map to compare properties
of two functions each represented in a
different way.
Word document/google doc.
Calculators.
Promethean board.
Printer(feedback).
Computers/Internet
Printer
Materials Pencil, pen, book.
Procedure Teacher will introduce the lesson to
the students.
Teacher will pass out laptops to the
students.
Teacher will ask the students if they
are familiar with Inspiration and

2
Microsoft word, if not, the teacher will
guide the students through the
Promethean board.
Students will work on the lesson
individually.
Students will type how they learn best.

My Example of a map using
Inspiration will be at the bottom of the
lesson plan.

Assessment Students will be assessed on:

How well they know their assignment.
How well they were able to teach their
assignment.
How much effort was put into the
assignment.
How well the map was created using
Inspiration.
The word document that they turned
in.
